Salary: $30 - $40 per hour A bit about us: A well-established food manufacturer is seeking a Senior Stainless-Steel Fabricator to join its Engineering and Maintenance team. This is a hands-on position responsible for designing, fabricating, modifying, and installing stainless-steel equipment and components used throughout a food production facility. The ideal candidate has extensive TIG and MIG welding experience, understands sanitary fabrication standards, and can independently take projects from initial measurements and layout through fabrication, finishing, installation, and turnover. Serve as the plant’s technical expert for sanitary welding and stainless-steel fabrication. Take ownership of projects from initial concept and layout through fabrication, installation, and completion. Work on a wide variety of equipment upgrades, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production leadership. Use your experience to mentor junior fabricators and maintenance technicians. Make a direct impact on equipment reliability, production efficiency, food safety, and operator safety. Job Details Key Responsibilities Fabricate, modify, install, and repair stainless-steel equipment, structures, platforms, guarding, piping, tanks, conveyors, hoppers, chutes, tables, and other processing components. Perform high-quality TIG and MIG welding, including thin-gauge stainless steel and sanitary applications. Produce smooth, continuous, crevice-free welds suitable for food-contact and washdown environments. Complete projects from concept through field measurement, layout, cutting, forming, welding, polishing, installation, and final turnover. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, schematics, and P&IDs. Create shop sketches and as-built documentation from field measurements. Cut, form, drill, grind, polish, passivate, and finish stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. Work with Engineering and Maintenance on equipment modifications, production improvements, sanitation upgrades, and operator-safety projects. Support equipment installations, relocations, utility connections, commissioning, shutdowns, and capital improvement projects. Fabricate replacement parts and wear components to minimize equipment downtime. Troubleshoot and repair fabricated production equipment as needed. Enter completed work, labor, and materials into the CMMS. Mentor junior fabricators and maintenance technicians on welding, layout, and sanitary fabrication practices. Sanitary Fabrication Responsibilities Apply hygienic design principles, including continuous welds, polished product-contact surfaces, self-draining designs, and the elimination of crevices, hollow bodies, and horizontal ledges. Work with food-grade materials, including 304 and 316L stainless steel. Maintain material traceability for product-contact fabrication. Work with sanitary tubing, Tri-Clamp fittings, weld ferrules, and butt-weld connections. Follow GMP, sanitation, foreign-material control, and food-safety requirements. Ensure fabrication debris, weld spatter, and metal shavings are properly contained and removed before returning an area to Production. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Welding certificate, trade-school education, or completed fabrication apprenticeship preferred. At least seven years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience. At least three years of experience in food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, or another sanitary manufacturing environment. Advanced TIG and MIG welding skills, particularly with stainless steel and thin-gauge materials. Strong knowledge of sanitary welding and hygienic equipment design. Experience with layout, cutting, forming, grinding, polishing, and finishing stainless steel. Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, schematics, and P&IDs. Experience with sanitary piping, Tri-Clamp fittings, weld ferrules, and CIP systems. AWS D1.6 or ASME Section IX certification is a plus. Orbital welding experience is a plus. Familiarity with compressed air, steam, water, glycol, and natural-gas systems is preferred. Ability to work independently with limited supervision and manage multiple projects. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Safety and Physical Requirements Follow all hot-work, fire-watch, Lockout/Tagout, confined-space, fall-protection, and OSHA safety procedures. Ability to work in wet, cold, hot, elevated, and confined environments. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements throughout the shift. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Must be willing to obtain powered industrial truck, scissor-lift, and aerial-lift certifications.
