Job DescriptionJob Title: Phlebotomist (Arverne) Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced phlebotomist to provide high-quality specimen collection services in a busy patient service center in Arverne, Queens. You will perform blood draws and related laboratory support tasks for a high volume of patients, including many pediatric patients, while delivering clear communication and compassionate care. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a strong priority for this position, and you will regularly interact with patients and families to explain procedures and ensure a positive experience. Responsibilities • Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles for a high volume of patients each day, including many children under the age of 10., • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures to maintain sample integrity., • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (such as urine or fecal collection) to patients and, when applicable, to parents or guardians., • Demonstrate proper collection techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles as required., • Match laboratory requisition forms or computer-generated labels to specimen tubes with complete accuracy., • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the specific test order and protocol., • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy before processing., • Package specimens for transport, following all protocols to preserve specimen quality and safety., • Store specimen samples at the required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, and follow all procedures necessary to maintain specimen integrity during handling and transport., • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks in accordance with laboratory and safety procedures., • Update patient information accurately and in a timely manner within the appropriate systems., • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to support a positive, efficient, and respectful care experience., • Provide patient and parent instruction, especially for pediatric patients, in a calm, clear, and supportive manner.Essential Skills, • Minimum 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting., • 2 or more years of recent phlebotomy experience., • Proficiency using straight and butterfly needles for blood collection., • Experience performing blood draws and venipuncture on pediatric patients, preferably with 2 years of pediatric experience, or strong comfort working with pediatric patients., • Ability to work comfortably with children under the age of 10, including using butterfly needles and providing clear instruction to parents., • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with bilingual skills prioritized for this role., • Strong reliability and punctuality, with a consistent record of dependable attendance., • Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, parents, and team members., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks., • Ability to follow detailed laboratory protocols and procedures with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • 1–5 years of experience performing heel sticks is preferred; training is available for candidates who meet other requirements., • Previous experience in an outpatient or patient service center setting., • Comfort instructing parents and guardians during pediatric specimen collection., • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume environment while maintaining quality and patient focus., • Demonstrated ability to remain patient, calm, and friendly with pediatric patients and their families.Work Environment This position is based at a patient service center in Arverne, Queens, near Far Rockaway. You will work on a two-person team and see approximately 40–50 patients daily, with a significant number of children under the age of 10 who typically require butterfly needle draws. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekend work is optional, with Saturday shifts typically running from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at other nearby sites. The environment is fast-paced and patient-facing, requiring consistent professionalism, attention to detail, and adherence to laboratory and safety protocols while using standard phlebotomy and specimen processing equipment such as needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and computer systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Arverne, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
