The Junior Marketing Designer role is a unique opportunity to design both print and digital marketing assets across our bestselling and award-winning Adult and Children’s publishing lists, as well as materials for festivals and conventions. The ideal candidate will have a base knowledge of marketing design with some real-world experience. You’re a self-starter who’s unafraid to jump in and take initiative, and you thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment. You’re energized by the opportunity to develop competitive marketing designs and maintain the look of existing branded campaigns. You have excellent communication skills and are engaged with the analytics of campaigns to improve conversion. This position is a union role represented by UAW Local 2110 and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. What you’d be doing: • Develop, execute, and translate designs for branded marketing and publicity campaigns to support the release of key titles across all areas of the consumer experience, including retail promotions (digital and brick-and-mortar), floor displays, merchandising and promotional materials (paper and premium), print and digital advertising, social media assets, animated GIFs and eBlasts, book tour materials, etc., • Assist the Marketing Designer and Associate Creative Director on larger-scale campaigns, maintaining and/or expanding upon existing visual identities and designs., • Own the creative process for assigned projects/campaigns from brief submission through routing, release, prototyping and proofing, working closely with the Marketing, Publicity, and School & Library teams and maintaining branded-visual consistency across all campaign assets; liaise with Book Design to gather assets; brainstorm with team members as needed to define the scope of elements., • Manage the schedule for assigned projects, proactively tracking on-time release in collaboration with Marketing, Publicity, and School & Library team members; manage file organization, back-ups, and archiving within marketing design servers for assigned projects, • Share current best practices and trends in design, actively suggesting ways to incorporate these learnings into campaigns. We’re looking for someone who has: • 1–3 years of experience in design and creative services., • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite on a Mac platform, with strong skills in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator (After Effects experience a plus). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word., • Working knowledge of print and digital file preparation, technical standards, color correction, image retouching, and visual best practices, including layouts and typography, with familiarity in the Pantone Color System and color optimization of files., • Imaginative and innovative thinker, excited to push the creative envelope and experiment with new techniques and technologies., • Proactive, solution-oriented, and highly motivated, with the ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment., • Nimble multi-tasker with strong time management skills, comfortable shifting course and pivoting as needed., • Strong attention to detail, even when working quickly under tight deadlines., • Ability to work with vendor-provided die-lines and templates for a wide range of promotional items, including corrugated materials and premium products. Highly preferred candidates also have: • 1–3 years of experience in marketing design and creative services., • Familiarity with the current competitive publishing landscape is a plus. This position is in New York, NY, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence three days per week. The base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 per year. The final offer will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
