Job Description Title of Position: Entitlement Specialist FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department: Transitional Salary: $26.23 per hour Reports to: Program Director Positions reporting to this position: N/A Purpose of the position: The Entitlement Specialist is responsible for providing direct service to clients at Win West. The Entitlement Specialist will act as a liaison between the client and governmental agencies. The Entitlement Specialist will provide guidance and assistance through the application submission process and ensure there is necessary follow up to obtain entitlement support. The Entitlement Specialist is require to facilitate regular group meetings. Responsibilities: • Must screen all clients to assess their eligibility for both private and/or governmental benefits., • Assist the client in completing all applications necessary to apply, appeal and maintain governmental and/or private benefits., • Escort clients to HRA, Social Security and all governmental agencies as necessary, • Maintain and encourage confidentiality with respect to HIPPA Laws., • Prepare clients for rehousing options through financial education., • Maintain all client records including using WIN’s proprietary system and CARES, • Facilitate weekly group meetings, • Prepare all mandated reporting as required by supervisor, contract agency and funding agency, • Other special projects and responsibilities, as needs. JOB SUMMARY: The Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) operates the City’s five Family Justice Centers (FJCs), which provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary and trauma-informed services for victims of intimate partner violence, sex trafficking and sexual assault. The Arab-American Family Support Center provides case management services, crisis intervention, advocacy, information, and referrals to victims of domestic violence at each Family Justice Center. As a member of AAFSC’s Anti-Violence Program Team, the Case Manager and Advocate will provide crisis intervention and direct services to program clients at the Family Justice Center. He or she will be responsible for conducting safety assessments, crisis intervention, supportive counseling and safety planning with survivors, as well as referrals and advocacy on behalf of survivors. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Conduct intake with clients to assess risk and determine service needs., • Provide ongoing safety planning and survivor-centered case management., • Engage in crisis intervention, including but not limited to service coordination with law enforcement, District Attorney offices, hospitals and other service providers., • Provide criminal justice and family court information, advocacy/support (e.g. drafting Order of Protection petitions), and court accompaniment to victims/survivors., • Provide information and filing-support regarding public assistance and other government entitlements, housing/shelter applications and transfers, Office of Victim Services compensation, lock replacement, short-term financial assistance, food pantries, and clothing donation centers., • Assist clients in preparing OVS compensation claims applications and submit a minimum of 3 applications a month., • Identify and provide referrals to outside therapeutic, legal, and other services as necessary., • Maintain thorough case files, document client sessions and services provided, and maintain updated demographic reports for regular funder reports in a timely manner., • Attend ongoing technical trainings, workshops, committees and lectures to ensure best- practice development and knowledge of current resources for clients., • Perform data entry into a computerized record keeping system and maintain thorough and accurate case records and statistics., • Assist in developing informational materials and presenting about domestic violence, gender-based violence and sexual assault dynamics, structural factors, and resources., • Attend weekly individual and monthly group supervision meetings., • Participate in AAFSC meetings and attend meetings on behalf of AAFSC., • BA/BS/BSW required in human service or a related field, • Fluency in Spanish or Arabic preferred. S.O.S. is a replication of the Cure Violence program, a gun violence prevention model that aims to reduce and prevent shootings using public health strategies. Neighbors in Action is seeking a Violence Interrupter for the Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) Bed-Stuy program. Reporting to the Violence Interrupter Supervisor, the Violence Interrupter will work individually and as a team to prevent neighborhood shootings and killings. They will provide conflict mediation services and serve as conduits to the program’s Outreach Workers who work with program participants on a long-term basis. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Work with community partners and the rest of the S.O.S. team to identify and diffuse “hot spots” for shootings and violence;, • Intervene in local conflicts to try to prevent an outbreak of violence, and work to prevent retaliations when violence does occur;, • Identify youth who are at-risk for being involved in violent activities and assist them in connecting to S.O.S., and/or other Neighbors in Action programs such as Make It Happen, Youth Programs, and Legal Hand, as well as referring them to other community organizations and resources as needed;, • Learn about the causes of shootings/killings in order to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups (e.g., working with the community, conducting outreach programs to gain information that may be helpful in preventing additional killings);, • Form relationships with the people who are at the highest risk of experiencing violence in the community, as well as the people who know them;, • Conduct outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, and community groups;, • Engage with local businesses and storefronts to spread understanding of the S.O.S. mission, build relationships, and increase public recognition of S.O.S. in the community;, • Talk to residents in the S.O.S.
