Job Description Closing Date: Thursday , February 19th, 2026, 9:00 PM [PST] Position: Heavy Equipment Operator Department: Public Works - Yard - Maintenance Hourly Range: $30.75 - $39.25 (Union- 6000 Series) Classification: Full-Time Non-Exempt – Overtime Eligible Benefits eligible & 401(a) payment equal to 5% of base salary Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled heavy equipment operating, truck driving, hauling, and tasks related to public works construction, maintenance, and repair. Supervisory Responsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Conduct periodic vehicle, tool, and equipment safety inspections, daily preventative maintenance, and basic servicing checks to ensure proper functionality., • Manage traffic control, including setting up and removing pre-warning signs and cones, implementing lane closures, and/or performing flagging operations to direct traffic around work sites., • Operate a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles for traffic management, public works construction, maintenance, and repair., • Secure and transport loads and equipment to work sites., • Perform grading, shoulder maintenance, snow plowing and sanding, basin maintenance, channel and flowline maintenance, and fence repair., • Maintain, repair, and clean public rights-of-way, basins, flowlines, concrete channels, landscaped areas, concrete structures, and asphalt roadways, ensuring adherence to safe practices, procedures, and traffic laws., • Fabricate, install, and repair fencing., • Maintain logs and records of supplies and work performed, and order supplies as needed., • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public., • Carry out additional duties as assigned. Job Requirements: • Possess basic to experienced level of techniques and practices used in construction, repair, and maintenance of public facilities and infrastructure., • Basic experience in heavy equipment operations., • General use, purpose, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and methods used in field maintenance construction work., • Principles and practices of work safety., • High School Diploma or equivalent., • One (1) year of experience in field construction, equipment operations, or maintenance work., • Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license, • Work is performed primarily in outdoor field environment; may work alone; employees exposed to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, in all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; workers may be required to respond to emergency calls after hours, including evenings and weekends., • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment:, • Ability to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (100 pounds with assistance and up to 50 pounds alone); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information., • Vision requirements:, • See in the normal visual range with or without correction., • Hearing:, • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
