CAMBA’s The Landing Family Shelter is funded by New York City Department of Homeless Services and offers families a supportive, structured therapeutic, safe, and drug-free facility. It provides comprehensive case management services to 169 families who are in a transitional residence program for homeless families. Seventy-Five apartments, will be master leased by CAMBA and will house chronically homeless single adults who are diagnosed with SPMI (seriously and persistently mentally ill). Position: Full-Time Security Guard Reports To: Program Director Location: 82-41 Parsons Blvd, Jamaica, New York 11432 What The Full-Time Security Guard Does: • Monitor and ensure the security and fire safety of the entire facility., • Employ crisis prevention/intervention and crisis management skills when conflict occurs., • Patrol buildings and grounds of facilities where CAMBA programs are located., • Examine doors, windows, gates and all fire exits to determine that they are secure and in accordance with all fire regulations., • Observe and report irregularities such as unusual tenant behavior, trespassers, fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked., • Monitor tenants and facility via security camera systems., • Conduct fire safety patrol and report findings or fire safety concerns to appropriate supervisory personnel., • Conduct security screenings of all tenants and visitors entering the facility., • Issue commendations to support positive tenant behaviors such as peers helping peers, compliance with rules and regulations, etc., • Counsel tenants that violate rules (such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles) and complete infraction reports., • Observe departing employees, visitors and/or tenants to guard against theft of CAMBA property., • Document in the security log book and incident report forms property damage, unusual occurrences, and incidents with employees, visitors and tenants., • Maintain assigned equipment per shift., • Sign equipment in and out for each shift., • Obtain “Criminal History Checks” (CHC) fingerprinting through the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs (Justice System) and Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance., • Ability to maintain fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment., • Must sign NYC DOH/MH attestation stating that candidate has not been the subject of a founded child abuse report., • As a Mandated Reporter, you must immediately report suspected incidents/cases of abuse and neglect to the Vulnerable Persons Central Register (VPCR) Hotline at 1-855-373-2122 and complete a CAMBA Incident Report., • Must have 8 hour Pre-Assignment security guard training course certificate., • Must obtain 16 hour On-the-Job security guard training course certificate within 90 days of employment., • Must complete 8 Hour Annual In-Service Course each calendar year., • Must have and maintain a NYS Security Guard license., • Must obtain NYS Security Guard registration, and must maintain registration during employment. Job Description Job Type: Shift Supervisor FSLA Classification: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Program Operations Location: Jamaica, Queens, NY Hourly rate: $27.47 - $30.21 Objective: Lantern Community Services is seeking a dedicated and motivated Shift Supervisor for our new men’s shelter, Liberty Plaza, located in Jamaica Queens. Shift Supervisors are responsible for a variety of specialized assignments in a homeless shelter; in addition, experience in site management and staff supervision is needed as well as previous experience in working with clients with mental health issues. The shift supervisor will report to the Director of Program Operations. Shift Supervisors will oversee designated operations of the shelter, supervising a team of Residential Aides and working in coordination with Social Services, Maintenance and Security Staff. Essential Functions: • Oversee all shelter operational tasks during operating hours including bed signing procedures, supply issuance, meal rosters, property storage, locker inspections, daily dorm inspections, facility logbook, incident submission, etc., • Supervise a team of Residential Aides to ensure safe and efficient provision of services to all clients and staff., • Ensure all clients have timely access to client services (meals, laundry, toiletries, medications, etc.), • Lead subordinates in Safe Crisis Management techniques and other crisis management models., • Ensure appropriate document processing of new and returning clients, (i.e., submit to DHS for approval and bed assignment), • Oversee bed sign-ins, curfew checks and vacancy reporting in CARES., • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Security, Vendors and Emergency Responders on site., • Monitor video surveillance cameras, and fire prevention / detection alarm notification system., • Complete assigned paperwork responsibilities (i.e., Log, incident reports, DHS reports and all other reports), • Assist Facility Manager, preparing and executing fire drills (as well as fires) or in other cases., • High School Diploma, GED, or HSE is required, • 3 years shelter experience as an RA, CM, etc. with 1 year of supervisory experience, • Possession of a valid Food Handler’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire, is required., • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to complete complex projects in a fast-paced environment., • Must be capable and comfortable with crisis management., • Computer proficiency with proficiency in Word, Excel and the ability to learn new technologies and databases., • F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator certification, required (or ability to obtain F 80 certification), • NYC Food Handlers Certificate or ability to obtain in 2 months., • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred., • Exhibit empathy towards the serviced population., • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral & written), • Preferred CPR/First Aid Certification Work Environment: This job operates in a shelter environment and works with a population who may experience mental illness, substance use, disability, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic illnesses.
