Job Description JOB TITLE: Recreational Specialist FLSA: Non Exempt LOCATION: Far Rockaway, NY REPORS TO: Program Director SALARY: $35,000.00 -$ 40,000.00 SUMMARY: The Recreation Specialist will work as a team member to create and support recreational activities for children living within our homeless shelter. This position reports to Social Work Supervisor to ensure that all activities are appropriate and meet the needs of the clients. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Works as a team member to provide academic, recreational and social skills programming to the school age children/young adults in the Shelter., • Creates a group environment that promotes and expects positive behavioral norms. Helps create a safe-haven for youth living within the homeless shelter setting., • Develops and implements age appropriate activities and programs., • Documents monthly participation and outcomes; analyzes results and prepares recommendations., • Participates in initial training, ongoing staff development and supervision., • Maintains proper safety standards in regards to the health of participants in all programs., • Ensures that the recreational space is clean and well maintained. High School Diploma/GED required, College degree preferred. Previous experience working with children and/or young adults is essential. Experience working with low-income population preferred. Must enjoy the challenges involved with working with youth who may present a number of academic and social deficits. Upbeat, engaging personality is desirable. Program hours include afternoons, evenings, some weekends and holidays. Must be computer savvy. A clean/valid NYS Driver’s License is required. Must be able to pass child abuse screening and criminal background check. Job Description Title of Position: Job Development Specialist, Supportive Housing FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Program Services Reports to: Program Director Salary: $25.22/ Hr Positions Reporting to the Position: None Purpose of the Position The Job Development Specialist of Supportive Housing is responsible for the successful integration of assessing clients’ job readiness and job development as well as supporting the employment/educational goals of each client to ensure compliance with Win’s and other agency contractual requirements. Responsibilities: • Commit to using evidence-based practices (EBP); Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), critical time intervention, and boundary setting, to help clients achieve their goals., • Conduct outreach to educate clients on the benefits of the program and to determine their educational and employment goals., • Conduct standardized assessments on clients to determine their “work readiness” level., • Provide referrals to local job placement resources and job training/placement sources to clients who are job ready., • Work with local employers to create a “job bank” of positions which can be filled by program participants., • Provide ongoing support to program participants who are employed., • Hold semi-annual job fairs to introduce program participants to local employment opportunities., • Consult with case manager on a regular basis to track progress of clients in the program., • Facilitate and organize employment and education-related workshops for clients to attend., • Maintain participant activity records, collect, and assist in analysis of program data., • Attend program and agency staff meetings, case conferences, supervisory and in-service training sessions., • Assist clients with enrollment into ESL, GED/post-secondary education programs., • Other duties and responsibilities identified by the supervisor. Essential Functions: • Ability to coach clients in job search and interview skills, local employment market, community resources, and organizations., • Ability to develop relationships with external stakeholders., • Ability work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple projects and deadlines., • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing., • Ability to ascend/descend stairs in the assigned building., • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field required., • Prior experience in job development required. Two (2) years of successful practical experience in job placement and career coaching with adults preferred., • Prior experience in training or delivering services to at risk populations required., • Experience in leading group activities and developing group curriculum., • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills., • Ability to work effectively in a team environment., • Computer skills and knowledge of AWARDS a plus., • Knowledge of homelessness and issues surrounding experiencing homelessness preferred., • Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The High Impact Prevention Services HIPS for Communities of Color (HIPS) is a New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute funded program aimed at decreasing the risk of HIV transmission. This program focuses on supporting access to and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and addressing social determinants of health that impede individuals from accessing care. The HIPS program focuses on increasing screening, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HIV at JPAFHC and in the communities served by JPAFHC in Queens and Brooklyn. The Employment Specialist is responsible for coordinating employment trainings, assessments, materials, and referrals for HIPS clients. This will include facilitating a bi-monthly workshop series (Job Search, Cover Letter and Resume Writing, Interview Skills), developing educational materials for clients, and assessing the clients job readiness. For clients who need more support, this will include providing individual job search help, cover letter and resume review, and practice interviews. The Employment Specialist will work mainly out of JPAFHC’s patient drop-in centers and will be required to attend outreach events to recruit clients and distribute materials in the communities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Evaluate participants’ interests, skills, and abilities through vocational assessments, • Build relationships with potential employers and training organizations to assist patients with achieving their career goals, • Conduct job development and job search activities toward positions that are individualized to the needs of the patients, • Prepare and facilitate workshops relevant workshops (i.e., Job Search, Cover Letter/Resume, and Interview Skills, • Develop an individual employment plan with clients including training and skills needed to obtain employment, • Attend outreach events, as needed, with the outreach team and refer potential clients to the program, • Provide culturally competent education on HIV prevention, PrEP, PEP, and available social services to JPA patients, • Provide drop-in hours for clients to receive individualized job search; cover letter and resume review; and interview practice, • Supervise drop-in hours at the RITE Centers for patients and clients to use public access computers and assist patients with locating social services, employment services, and other needs, • Coordinate linkages to care for clients seeking ESL, OSHA, GED, and other trainings, • Prepares and presents appropriate educational and other materials, using harm reduction approaches and evidence-based information, • Support outreach team with planning and coordinating educational outreach events including those targeted to at-risk communities, • Foster relationships with community partners to streamline referrals and linkages to social services, • Maintain accurate and updated patient records, tracking contacts, counseling, testing, referrals, and outreach performance as defined by evidence-based models, local/state/federal entities, and JPA, • Participate in staff meetings and staff development trainings, • Perform special projects and other job-related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: • Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, English, Marketing, or Education. In lieu of degree, two years minimum work or work/volunteer experience in career development, • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community and people living with HIV/AIDS are strongly encouraged to apply, • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well with electronic medical records preferred, • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments at any time, • Comfort with working independently and collaboratively, • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
