We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our growing team. Position Overview The Accounting Manager will oversee a portfolio of client engagements and play a key role in financial oversight, client service, team leadership, and firm growth. This individual will serve as a trusted resource to clients, a mentor to Senior and Staff Accountants, and an important contributor to the continued development of the firm. Key Responsibilities Client Accounting, Advisory, and Oversight • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes for client engagements, • Review financial statements, account analyses, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, and overall quality, • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide practical recommendations to clients and firm leadership, • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and other financial reporting to support client planning and decision-making, • Help identify process improvements and reporting efficiencies across client engagements, • Oversee insurance premium audits, renewals, and related client matters Tax and Compliance Responsibilities • Review business income tax workpapers and support the preparation and review of S corporation, partnership, and other closely held business tax returns, • Analyze general ledger activity and financial statements for tax reporting purposes, including identification of book-to-tax differences, • Review payroll tax, sales tax, and other recurring compliance filings prepared by team members, • Work with leadership and clients to address tax notices, respond to information requests, and resolve business tax compliance matters, • Monitor relevant tax and business law developments and help assess the impact on clients and internal processes Client Relationship Management • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned client relationships, • Communicate directly with business owners and client contacts regarding financial results, open items, deadlines, and planning matters, • Deliver responsive, high-quality service while building strong long-term client relationships, • Coordinate internally with firm leadership and engagement staff to ensure client work is completed accurately and on time Leadership and Team Development • Supervise, review, and guide the work of Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants, and other junior team members, • Manage workflow, assignments, and deadlines across engagements to support efficiency and consistency, • Mentor team members by supporting technical development, accountability, and career progression, • Foster a collaborative, professional, and high-performing team environment, • Support the continued growth of the firm through process improvement, technology adoption, recruiting, and other internal initiatives Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, • CPA license preferred, • 8+ years of progressive public accounting experience required, • Strong knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and client service, • Ability to analyze financial information and provide thoughtful, practical recommendations, • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks, CCH Axcess, and Microsoft Excel required, • Prior experience supervising, reviewing, and mentoring staff strongly preferred, • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, • High level of accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail, • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills Why Join Heritage CPAs • The opportunity to join a respected, growth-oriented firm with a long-standing reputation for quality and service, • Direct exposure to a diverse client base, including closely held businesses and individuals with complex tax and financial needs, • Meaningful leadership responsibility and regular access to firm leadership, • A professional, collaborative environment where team members are supported in both technical and professional growth, • A long-term career opportunity with room to expand your role and responsibilities over time, • Competitive compensation and performance bonus opportunity, • Comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) with employer match, health, dental, vision, life insurance, HSA, and paid time off, • Summer Fridays, with the office closed every Friday from Memorial Day through Labor Day Seasonal Workload Expectations We believe in being transparent about the rhythm of public accounting while also offering meaningful flexibility during non-peak periods. • January: average 50 hours per week, • February through April: average 60 hours per week, • May through August: average 34 hours per week, • September through October: average 45 hours per week, • November through December: average 40 hours per week This is a full-time, in-person role based in Hauppauge, NY.
