Job Description Packaging Design Manager Overview We are seeking a highly organized, hands-on Packaging Design Manager to design and direct execution of packaging. This individual will lead the entire packaging lifecycle from concept through production while also managing and developing a growing team of packaging professionals. This role combines creative execution, strategic oversight, and people leadership. You will be responsible for creating innovative, brand-right packaging solutions while ensuring your team operates efficiently, meets deadlines, and maintains the highest quality standards. Ideal candidates are creative thinkers, strong communicators, and experienced leaders with a deep understanding of packaging design, production processes, and team management. Key Responsibilities Packaging Design • Design and execute packaging artwork using Adobe Illustrator; perform image retouching and mockup creation in Photoshop., • Create and enforce packaging brand guides, including those required by licensors., • Stay current on packaging trends, innovations, and sustainability practices through regular market research., • Collaborate with sales and merchandising teams to deliver tailored packaging solutions for key accounts., • Liaise with manufacturers and vendors to submit packaging files, track proofs, and ensure production timelines are met., • Review packaging proofs and dyelines with meticulous attention to scale, accuracy, color, alignment, and branding., • Maintain and update dyelines to ensure proper fit and compliance with product specifications., • Produce high-quality mockups and samples for internal use and client presentations., • Maintain a well-organized file preparations & formats, as well as an asset library., • Manage all packaging projects from concept through production. Leadership & Strategy • Lead and mentor packaging creatives on best practices with packaging development and execution., • Manage creative timelines, resource planning and other collaborative efforts to meet deadlines., • Oversee packaging team members, including freelance and full-time designers, provide feedback, mentorship, and performance support., • Monitor packaging design project list. Troubleshoot any bandwidth issues and escalate to the division VP., • Adhere to the deadlines set forth in the seasonal stock calendar. Create and maintain a project request form on other projects outside of stock, i.e. made to order and development., • Promote a high level of design strategy and innovation across packaging., • Ensure all executions meet business objectives., • 5+ years of hands-on experience in packaging design and development, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or supervisory role., • A strong portfolio displaying excellence in packaging artwork., • Deep understanding of materials, packaging engineering, and manufacturing processes., • Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)., • Extensive knowledge of dyelines, materials, printing processes, and packaging production., • Exceptional attention to detail, especially in typography, alignment, color consistency, and branding accuracy., • Proven ability to lead a team and oversee creative projects., • Excellent organizational, time management, and project tracking abilities., • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting., • Effective communicator who thrives in collaborative, cross-functional environments., • Inventive mindset with a strong understanding of emerging design and packaging trends., • Creative expert with a passion for design and knack for execution., • Experience working with licensed brands and licensors on packaging compliance and approvals., • A self-starter mindset with a collaborative spirit.
