Job Description Health and Safety Officer Broadview at Purchase College Position Title: Health and Safety Officer Department: Plant Operations Supervisor: Director of Plant Operations Exempt Status: Non- Exempt Full Time: Three shifts -Monday- Sunday GENERAL SUMMARY: A unique opportunity exists to join a team in creating a vibrant senior learning community on the campus of Purchase College, State University of New York. The residents of this university-based retirement community will be able to enjoy the many amenities of the college including the renowned Neuberger Museum of Art, the Performing Arts Center, the academic and athletic facilities, and the park-like campus. Position Summary The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents, visitors, and staff and protecting Community property. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • Minimum 5 years’ experience in experienced in security, • High school diploma/GED, • Must possess a current, clear and valid driver’s license., • The ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language., • CPR certified Preferred Requirements: • EMT certified ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Performs checks on fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, emergency lights and exit lights., • Testing security and fire alarm systems., • Background in law enforcement., • Makes scheduled rounds both inside and outside the buildings to maintain a secure environment for residents and their property as well as company property., • Responds to all fire alarms and apartment emergency calls., • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with residents, family members, visitors, and personnel to assure that security procedures meet the needs of the facility., • Assists with special health and safety needs as they arise involving employees, visitors, and other members of the community., • Provides a written report of any community incident during the shift that to the Director of Plant operations and other administration may need to be aware of., • Maintains entrances in facility for safe passage at all times. Shovels and keeps clear exit door walkways during and after snowstorms., • Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by supervisor. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor., • Reports all incidents/accidents immediately. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions equipment immediately. Assures that established safety regulations are followed at all times. Recognizes unsafe conditions and takes action or reports conditions to supervisor. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, co-workers, physicians, families, consultant personnel and other ancillary service providers., 13. Observe all community safety policies and procedures., 14. Is observant of safety hazards and emergency situations, and reports to appropriate person or takes corrective action according to established procedures., 15. Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance., 16. Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality, complies with attendance policy., 17. Assume accountability for data contained in the Employee Handbook., 18. Assumes accountability for compliance with Federal, State, and other regulations within scope of control and of which informed., 19. Observe infection control procedures., 20. Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times., 21. Observe all community policies and procedures., 22. Accept assigned duties, instructions or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority according to state procedures.
