BDS is a public defense office representing low-income New Yorkers in criminal, family, immigration, and civil legal matters. For nearly 30 years, BDS has worked, in and out of court, to protect and uphold the rights of individuals and to change laws and systems that perpetuate injustice and inequality. Our legal expertise work with clients is focused on the intersections of these legal systems that disproportionately impact Black and Brown communities living in poverty. BDS represents thousands of people each year who have diverse, complex, and multi-faceted legal needs. In addition to a zealous legal defense, our interdisciplinary teams of attorneys, social workers and advocates provide a wide range of legal and advocacy services, including for housing, public benefits, education, and employment. POSITION OVERVIEW Under supervision of the PROS Program Director, the Behavioral Specialist is responsible for the provision of recovery support and goal planning with caseload of psychiatrically diagnosed individuals. The Behavior Specialist serves as a key member of the PROS team, providing behavioral assessment, intervention, training, community outreach efforts with scheduled home visits to participants, and consultation for adults with serious mental illness (SMI) or co-occurring disorders who are engaged in a recovery-oriented community program. The role aims to support participants in achieving meaningful life goals, improving functioning, reducing problematic behaviors, enhancing community integration, and supporting staff in programmatic behavior management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: • Provides Primary Care, routine and acute care, for both scheduled, same day and walk in appointments, • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times, including demonstration of sound moral and ethical character, compassion, adherence to all agency standards for dress and decorum, • Demonstrates proficiency in use of electronic medical record, • Complies with productivity expectations under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, • Initiation of treatment and management of chronic illnesses including, but not limited to, HIV infection, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes, lipid disorders, and hypertension, • Generates appropriate referrals to ancillary and specialty services, • Maintains documentation according to standards of the agency and regulatory agencies, • Documents clinical activities and information, • Initiation/ changes in treatment, • Referrals to specialty services, or social based services, • Prescribing including electronic scripts, • Documents and locks progress notes within 48 hours of client encounter, • Ensure timely prescription writing, order, progress notes, and referrals, • Follows prescribing practices according to agency policy and state regulations, • May administer medication according to the same procedures and protocols applied to the nursing staff, • Performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to accepted practice standards, • Interpretation of laboratory studies and follow-up on consultation reports, • Provide health education and counseling during visits, • Adheres to regulatory guidelines in regards to compliance, ie, Coding practices., • Attends patient care related meetings, as necessary, including but not limited to morning huddles, case conferences, • Manages coordination of care for individual clients by working with available resources both internal and external to the agency, • Provide clinical supervision to Advanced Practice Clinicians (PA and NP) as assigned by the Medical Director, • Provide phone on-call coverage on a rotating schedule, • Participates in CQI activities, • Participate in Meetings, • Attends conferences and community based activities, including advocacy efforts to eliminate homelessness, HIV and disparities in care as designated by the Medical Director or designee, • Achieve and maintain HIV specialist status, preferred, • Accumulate a minimum of 10 specific HIV CME credits throughout the year and a total of 25 credits total per year Ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following: • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English/French), • Experience in treating hard to reach populations, including the homeless, 'immigrants, HIV infected, substance users, and mentally ill, • Desire and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to the delivery of high quality care, • Leadership abilities with trouble shooting and problem solving skills, • Proficient in use of electronic medical record systems and other technology required for use in the delivery of care, • Track record of positive interpersonal skills with staff, clients, and others, • Willingness to work off hours on special projects as reasonably dictated by Chief Medical Officer, • The employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Job Summary The Meeting & Event Coordinator will interact closely with the Firm’s executives and administrative staff to ensure the seamless planning and coordination of meetings, conferences and other events held at multiple locations in New York and New Jersey. Some travel to certain locations around the East Coast and Central region may be requested. RESPONSIBLITIES: -Handling meeting room bookings, utilizing the reservation system (EMS) and focusing on the strategic assignment of meeting space so as to maximize utilization. Ensuring that the real-time information for each reservation is updated on the reservation portal. -Coordinating a wide range of services for meetings, including Audio Visual requirements, catering, conference room set-ups, signage, distribution of materials, etc. Liaise between client and vendor partners before, during and post event with necessary updates. -Executing events as support or lead as needed, including set-up and tear down of meeting space, catering, etc. -Producing Event Resumes in order to document events and share detailed information with all involved departments, as well as hosting Pre-Cons and Post-Cons with clients and onsite team to ensure everyone is set up for success. -Obtaining correct approval and billing information for all expense related activity to include food and beverage, equipment rentals, etc. Monitoring the accuracy of any such charges and keeping to client’s budget. -Managing survey’s post meeting and working with leadership team on future solutions and improvements. -Quickly identifying booking conflicts or potential booking conflicts, suggesting solutions and if not immediately resolved, discussing such conflicts with the Conference Center Manager/GS Manager. -Checking that meeting rooms are set-up correctly, with the proper equipment and amenities, prior to the start of meetings. Greeting the host upon his or her arrival to the meeting room and ascertaining any new requests. -Ability to life 30-50 lbs. if needed. -Responding to numerous phone calls and emails with new meeting requests and special “add-on” information for existing meetings. -Providing lunchtime and other short-term coverage for members of the Office services staff. -Consistently develop and bring ideas which enhance the meeting experience that can be applied at all locations. -Conducting opening and closing walkthroughs and sending appropriate reports. During the conference room walkthroughs, if any discrepancies are noticed, please ensure they are addressed and reported through the appropriate service ticket. -Effectively solve space or amenities related issues to ensure an elevated user experience. -Other duties as required. Job Description Summary StreetWork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. Streetwork’s programs are innovative outreach-counseling programs for homeless youth, which use a harm reduction, client centered, and trauma informed approach. Services include counseling, HIV prevention, case management, drop-in, daily living services, meals, groups, legal services, syringe exchange and overdose prevention services, mental health, and medical. The core service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a non-judgmental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high-risk behaviors. The Streetwork Overnight is a 24-bed facility for homeless youth ages 16-21. Services include: counseling, case management, meals, laundry, showers, support groups, and access to medical and psychiatric care. Responsibilities: • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients. Coach and guide staff in their client practice that reflects these approaches.
