Job Description The Role Liberty Science Center (LSC) is seeking a Seasonal STEM Research Program Facilitator to support our new Pathways to Partners in Science (“Pathways”) initiative. Pathways consists of two cohorts, each participating in a two-week summer experience that introduces rising 10th-grade students to the world of scientific research through immersive, hands-on workshops and guided mini-projects. Designed as a preparatory pathway to the Partners in Science program, this initiative equips students with essential skills in: (1) Scientific inquiry and the research process, (2) Data collection and analysis, (3) Science writing and presentation, (4) Collaboration and communication, and (5) STEM career exploration. This role involves refining and delivering engaging workshops to help participants build their capacity in these technical and soft skills. The Seasonal STEM Research Program Facilitator will report to the Associate Director of 6-12 STEM Programs and work closely with the broader STEM Education team to ensure a high-quality, impactful experience for all participants. Most importantly, you are an enthusiastic science communicator—skilled at breaking down complex ideas into accessible, engaging content that inspires curiosity and learning. What You’ll Do Below is an overview of your essential functions; please note that this list is not exhaustive, and new responsibilities may be added as business needs dictate. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Program Facilitation * Deliver hands-on, inquiry-based workshops on: * Scientific inquiry and experimental design * Data collection and analysis * Science journaling and communication * STEM career pathways and opportunities * Guide students through the completion of individual or group mini-research projects Mentorship and Advising * Foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and personal growth * Provide mentorship and guidance to students as they build STEM identities and explore career interests * Give feedback on students’ progress, ideas, and presentation skills Content Development and Collaboration * Contribute to the design and refinement of workshop content * Collaborate with the STEM Education team on daily logistics, materials, and final project showcase planning Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong knowledge of the scientific research and inquiry process, including hypothesis formation, experimentation, and data analysis * Experience in science communication, including writing, public speaking, and helping others develop and deliver engaging presentations. * Accomplished at mentoring and engaging with high school students, especially those new to research or underrepresented in STEM * Comfortable facilitating both individual and small group learning * Organized, flexible, and responsive to student and program needs Qualifications and Experience * Education: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field required; advanced degree or formal teaching experience preferred * Experience: STEM research experience required. Prior experience in youth programming, mentoring, or informal science education preferred Schedule The STEM Research Program Facilitator is a seasonal (temporary, short-term), non-exempt position, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. The candidate must be available Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM each day, between June 29, 2026, and August 14, 2026. While we strive to provide regular hours, the schedule may vary based on program needs, with shifts ranging from 4 to 8 hours in duration. The position requires walking on concrete floors, climbing stairs, bending/lifting/stretching, tolerating high noise levels, navigating crowds, and publicly speaking. Compensation The Seasonal STEM Research Program Facilitator is compensated at a rate of $35/hr - $45/hr, based on professional experience.
