Job Description Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant – Full Time – New York Employment Type: Direct Hire Compensation: $76.05 – $92.05 per hour Schedule: Full Time | 12.5-hour day shifts Setting: Level II Trauma Center | Cardiovascular Surgery Department Location: Oceanside, New York Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant to support a high-volume open-heart surgical program at a Level II Trauma Center. This role requires a clinically strong PA with recent cardiovascular surgery experience who can function independently while collaborating closely with surgeons, medical staff, and the broader care team. The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive patient care across the inpatient, surgical, and perioperative settings, including first assist duties, vessel harvesting, post-operative management, and critical care support. This position also involves leadership responsibilities, mentorship of other PAs, and active participation in maintaining high clinical standards within the surgical service line. Key Responsibilities • Assist in cardiothoracic and open-heart surgical procedures, • Perform first assist duties, including vessel harvesting, • Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care, • Order and interpret diagnostics and medications, • Provide inpatient and surgical floor coverage, • Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams, • Support clinical leadership and mentorship within the PA team Education • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, • Master’s degree preferred, • Recent OR experience required, • Recent experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery strongly preferred, • First assist and vessel harvesting experience preferred, • Epic experience preferred, • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, • Current New York State Physician Assistant license, • NCCPA certification, • Current DEA registration, • BLS and ACLS required, • Moderate physical activity required, • Ability to stand, bend, lift, and assist in surgery for extended periods, • Use of appropriate PPE required, • Hospital surgical environment
