Job DescriptionSalary: NYS Prevailing Wage (Laborer C) Position Overview: The Tack Truck Driver is responsible for operating a tack distributor truck to apply asphalt emulsion prior to paving operations. This role is critical in ensuring proper adhesion between pavement layers and supporting overall quality of the finished product. This position works closely with paving crews and requires a strong focus on safety, equipment operation, and attention to detail in a fast-paced, field environment. Key Responsibilities • Operate tack truck safely and efficiently in support of paving operations, • Apply tack coat at required rates in designated areas prior to paving, • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance, including checking spray bars, nozzles, hoses, and tank levels, • Load and manage asphalt emulsion and heating oil as needed, • Monitor temperature and ensure materials are maintained within recommended ranges, • Ensure proper setup and operation of spray system, including calibration and adjustments, • Follow direction from superintendent/foreman regarding application rates and work areas, • Maintain cleanliness of tanks, spray bars, and equipment, • Work closely with paving crews to ensure proper timing and coordination, • Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE and safe operation around crews and equipment, • Assist with general labor duties as needed on the crew, • Manage and communicate with paving superintendent tack material on hand and ensure truck is always full and prepared for the upcoming needs, • Circulate and maintain material in tankers that are staged onsite to ensure material is usable Required Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent., • CDL Class B required, • Tanker endorsement preferred, • Valid DOT Medical Card required, • Clean Driving record, • Prior experience operating a tack truck or similar equipment preferred, • Experience working in asphalt paving or heavy civil construction environments preferred Physical Requirements • Ability to safely operate equipment in active construction zones, • Basic understanding of asphalt paving processes, • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a crew, • Strong attention to detail when applying materials, • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)., • Stamina to perform physical labor and stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the day.
