Job Description Position Title: American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter Location: Brockport Brockport, NY 14420 Employment Type: Contract / Part-Time / As-Needed Contract Term: Initial three-year contract beginning July 2026, with potential for two one-year extensions, consistent with the client’s procurement schedule. About the Opportunity Corporate Hiring Solutions Inc. is seeking highly qualified and professional American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support a leading public university in New York State. Interpreters will provide communication access services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors participating in academic, administrative, and community activities. Assignments may include classroom lectures, meetings, workshops, student support services, commencement ceremonies, public events, and other university-related functions. Services may be delivered on campus and at designated off-campus locations. Key Responsibilities • Provide accurate and culturally appropriate interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL)., • Interpret in academic courses, seminars, labs, advising sessions, and tutoring appointments., • Support university meetings, orientations, training sessions, and campus events., • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with applicable privacy and ethical standards., • Arrive on time and prepared for each assignment., • Coordinate with disability services and scheduling staff regarding assignment details., • Adapt interpreting methods to suit the communication preferences of Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants., • Follow the professional Code of Professional Conduct established by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)., • Submit required timesheets, reports, and administrative documentation accurately and on time. Minimum Qualifications • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in ASL Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field preferred., • National certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), such as NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent preferred., • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language and spoken English., • At least two years of professional interpreting experience, preferably in higher education or educational settings., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills., • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments., • Reliable transportation for travel to campus and off-site locations when necessary. Preferred Qualifications • Experience interpreting in college or university environments., • Familiarity with academic terminology across a variety of disciplines., • Knowledge of accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act., • Availability for evening or occasional weekend assignments. Physical Requirements • Ability to sustain repetitive hand, arm, and upper body movements., • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods., • Visual acuity sufficient to observe speakers and participants clearly. Work Schedule • Assignments are scheduled based on university needs and interpreter availability. Opportunities may include daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours.
