The Private Cloud Engineer will install, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot servers, network equipment, cabling, power systems, and related data center infrastructure. They will perform hardware deployments and replacements, support secure network and VPN connectivity, follow approved connection protocols, maintain accurate documentation, and help enforce Zero Trust network principles across physical and logical access workflows. \n \n Requirements \n • Advanced hands-on experience installing, racking, cabling, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise servers and data center infrastructure. \n • Deploy and configure open source software systems. \n • Ability to independently diagnose complex hardware failures and replace or coordinate replacement of drives, memory, processors, power supplies, network interface cards, system boards, and other field-replaceable components. \n • Strong working knowledge of switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPN technologies, and network segmentation. \n • Proficiency with secure management and remote-access protocols, including SSH, RDP, HTTPS, IPsec, SSL/TLS, console access, and out-of-band management platforms. \n • Practical experience applying Zero Trust principles, including identity verification, least-privilege access, device validation, network segmentation, secure administrative access, and continuous monitoring. \n • Advanced ability to install, terminate, label, test, trace, troubleshoot, and document copper and fiber-optic cabling and network connections. \n • Experience monitoring server health, network connectivity, environmental conditions, power, cooling, capacity, and hardware alerts; ability to identify risks and recommend corrective action before service is affected. \n • Ability to lead hardware deployments, migrations, operating-system installations, firmware upgrades, preventive maintenance, and approved infrastructure changes from planning through validation. \n • Working knowledge of virtualization platforms, storage systems, backup and recovery solutions, remote monitoring tools, ticketing systems, and data center infrastructure management tools. \n • Ability to lead incident response and root-cause analysis for complex infrastructure issues, restore service within defined targets, document findings, and implement preventive actions. \n • Ability to create and maintain accurate asset records, rack elevations, cable maps, system configurations, standard operating procedures, maintenance records, and disaster-recovery documentation. \n • Strong understanding of change management, physical security, workplace safety, access control, and information-security requirements in production data center environments. \n • Ability to coordinate technical work with system administrators, network engineers, security teams, vendors, carriers, and remote support personnel. \n • Ability to provide technical guidance, review work, and mentor junior technicians while promoting consistent operational and documentation standards. \n • Ability to safely lift and install data center equipment and work in rack, cabling, and equipment-room environments. \n • Availability to work full-time on-site in Oakland, California, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with participation in planned maintenance and occasional after-hours incident support. \n \n Qualifications \n • Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in data center operations, network operations, infrastructure support, field services, systems support, or a related technical role. \n • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Electronics, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered. \n • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, BICSI, VMware VCP, Microsoft, Linux, or comparable credentials are strongly preferred. \n • Demonstrated success leading complex hardware installations, infrastructure upgrades, maintenance activities, incident response, or data center projects with minimal supervision. \n • Advanced hardware and network troubleshooting skills, including the ability to isolate faults across servers, storage, cabling, power, environmental systems, and network connectivity. \n • Ability to interpret and produce rack elevations, cable maps, network diagrams, equipment documentation, implementation plans, and standard operating procedures. \n • Strong analytical, organizational, written communication, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical risks and resolutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders. \n • Experience managing competing incidents, service requests, installations, and maintenance activities while meeting service, security, safety, and documentation standards. \n • Strong attention to detail and a security-focused, safety-conscious, service-oriented approach. \n • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment during incidents and changes, and collaborate effectively across technical teams. \n • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior technicians, share technical knowledge, and improve operational procedures. \n • Willingness to participate in planned maintenance, on-call rotations, or occasional after-hours support when required. \n • Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. \n \n Benefits \n • End of Year Bonus: As performance and company metrics permit. \n • Health Insurance: Health insurance will be provided to all eligible staff. \n • Dental Insurance: Dental insurance will be provided to all eligible staff. \n • Vision Insurance: Vision insurance will be provided to all eligible staff. \n • 401K: 3% match, then 50% match on the next 2%. \n • Paid Time Off: We offer a base of 18 days of paid time off in addition to ~12 holidays.
