Job Description Barker Animal Hospital is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our team and support both outpatient care and procedural services, including surgery and dentistry. We are seeking a versatile, client-focused technician who thrives in a dynamic general practice environment — balancing exam room care, surgical support, high-volume dentistry, and client communication at a high clinical level. In this position, you will play a key role in both outpatient and procedural workflows, contributing to a consistent, high standard of care throughout the patient visit. Responsibilities include: • Splitting time between exam room, outpatient, and surgical caseload support, • Performing anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for soft tissue surgeries, spays/neuters, and more, • Assisting in surgery and supporting a high-volume dental program, including full-mouth digital radiographs, oral charting, ultrasonic scaling, and polishing, • Performing venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and medication administration, • Running in-house diagnostics and supporting laboratory sample collection, • Maintaining accurate, detailed medical records and treatment documentation, • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately, • Building strong client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service Schedule and compensation: • Compensation: $27.00–$32.00 per hour, for each hour worked, • This is a full-time or part-time position (part-time 2–3 days/week) with a flexible 4 x 10 schedule, Monday–Friday with the possibility of rotating Saturday shifts in the future as our team grows. No on-call or emergency hours. Minimum qualifications and skill set: • 1+ years of veterinary technician experience; training considered for the right candidate, • Active, good-standing Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license in Virginia required, • Recent graduates pending VTNE testing, or out-of-state license-holders eligible to transfer, are encouraged to apply, • Reliability and attendance are essential — a consistent, dependable presence is a must, • Excellent communication skills — the ability to communicate clearly with your team is as important as your clinical skillset, • Proficiency in the following skills is required:, • Safe, low-stress, Fear Free patient handling and restraint, • Outpatient care and exam room workflow management, • Venipuncture and basic patient assessment, • Client education and communication, • Accurate medical record documentation and exam notes/scribing, • TPR/NT/AG and basic nursing care, • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment, • Dependable attendance and professional communication with the team, • Skills we're willing to help you develop:, • Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery, • Surgical assistance and aseptic technique, • Dental prophylaxis and digital dental radiography, • IV catheter placement and medication administration, • In-house laboratory diagnostics (IDEXX), • Radiology positioning and safety protocols Why choose Barker Animal Hospital?
