At ING we are looking for a Head of Infrastructure Sector Iberia Your role and work environment We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Director, Head of Infrastructure Sector to join our Sector Team of Wholesale Banking. As Director, you will lead the Infrastructure Sector team in Madrid, covering Spain and Portugal, working in close collaboration with different product teams. The team will comprise yourself and a more junior member, and you will report locally to the Head of Sectors, and functionally to the EMEA head of Infrastructure. This team forms part of ING’s EMEA Infrastructure franchise, with offices in Brussels, London and Madrid. The franchise also extends into the Americas (New York) and APAC (Sydney). We cover primarily infrastructure funds, as well as infrastructure companies (e.g. airports, regulated utilities, ferries) and contractors active in infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Client Coverage Act as the primary relationship manager for infrastructure clients in Spain and Portugal. Support the global Infrastructure franchise in covering key global Spanish and Portuguese clients in their outbound activities across EMEA, the Americas and APAC, while supporting global clients in their Iberian investment ambitions. Organize and set up internal (virtual) deal teams to drive and coordinate origination with both existing and new clients. Work closely with product teams, including Lending, Corporate Finance Advisory, Debt Advisory, Debt Capital Markets, Payments and Cash Management, Trade Financing, and Hedging products, to deliver integrated solutions across the full Wholesale Banking product suite. Maintain active and regular contact with other ING departments to ensure continuous dialogue around client needs, solutions and innovative ideas to support growth ambitions. Maximize fee income and capture cross-buy at an early stage in close cooperation with all ING product teams (including Financial Markets, CMA and Transaction Services). Be responsible for commercial alignment and driving commercial prioritization on behalf of the Infra Sector in Iberia. Engage in senior level dialogues with clients. Lead client meetings, negotiations, and presentations, positioning ING as a trusted advisor and strategic partner. Identify and promote opportunities in the ESG space with sponsors and portfolio companies to drive sustainability ambitions. Contribute to KYC onboarding and remediation efforts as part of client relationship management. Transaction Leadership Lead the origination, structuring, negotiation, execution, and monitoring of complex transactions, including acquisition finance, project finance, fund financing, and sustainability-linked solutions. Review financial models, credit applications, and transaction documentation, considering ING’s risk appetite and policies. Coordinate internal deal teams and work closely with transaction management and portfolio management colleagues to capture business opportunities. Take responsibility for securing commercial and credit support from the EMEA commercial and credit committees. Strategy development and execution Contribute to the Infra commercial strategies, target setting, client marketing and business initiatives, within the Credit & NFR risk appetite. Design a 2026-2028 Sector strategy that guides origination and risk management efforts, embedding relationship-driven approaches. Identify and act on commercial growth opportunities, including event-driven, advisory, sustainability and outbound business development. Apply Commercial Excellence in the way of working. Develop and manage Dynamic Plan and pursue profitable opportunities aligned with the strategy. Drive active portfolio management discussions focusing on risk performance, client profitability and cross-buy/capital velocity in the Iberian Infra portfolio. Maintain a robust risk culture and performance within Infrastructure sectors. Ensure regulatory compliance in line with ING procedures. Team Leadership Manage and mentor a junior team member, fostering learning, collaboration, and high performance. Contribute to ING’s sector knowledge, sharing insights and best practices across the EMEA platform and to ING’s strategic initiatives. What are we looking for? Experience/Knowledge 9+ years of client-facing experience with a project and/or Acquisition Finance background. Demonstrated expertise and a robust track record within the infrastructure sector in Spain and/or Portugal, including established relationships with relevant infrastructure stakeholders in the region. Experience with a diverse product suite relevant to infrastructure clients. Personal Competencies Strong client origination and pitching skills. Entrepreneurial mindset, client-centric commercial drive and a collaborative team player attitude. Solid financing and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish (Portuguese is a plus). Comprehensive Infra sector knowledge and robust Wholesale Banking product knowledge (mandatory).
