About Biomemory 🧬 Biomemory is a worldwide pioneer in the DNA Data Storage market. We are a well-funded start-up building IT rackable equipment for Data Centers, using synthetic DNA as the storage media. While this technology is still at its infancy, these DNA Data Storage Servers target the storage of massive amounts of data (Exabytes) with a very long retention life-time (> 100 years) within an attractive capex and opex budget. Headquartered in Paris, Biomemory aims at serving the fast-growing international “cold storage” market. About the Role We are seeking a Hardware Director to lead and expand the team responsible for developing the hardware modules at the core of Biomemory’s data-storage system. As a key member of the System Engineering organization, you will drive the technical vision, ensure robust execution, and foster strong collaboration across engineering disciplines. You will work closely with the Software Director and the System Integration & Validation Team Leader to deliver a cohesive, high-performance system architecture and advance Biomemory’s next-generation hardware platform. Key Responsibilities • Lead end-to-end development of hardware modules, whether developed internally or with external partners—from requirements definition and specifications to design, prototyping, verification, industrialization, and full integration into the Biomemory system., • Define the hardware technology roadmap, shaping system architecture to ensure reliability, scalability, and alignment with Biomemory’s long-term product vision., • Build, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary hardware engineering team, fostering technical excellence and effective collaboration across mechanical, mechatronic, electronic, automation, and embedded engineering domains., • Develop and enforce rigorous engineering processes, including design reviews, riskmanagement, documentation standards, and continuous improvement practices to guarantee product quality and on-time delivery., • Collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders—Software, System Engineering, System Integration & Validation—to ensure seamless co-design, interface alignment, and smooth system-level integration. About You Experience & Qualifications • 10+ years of experience in hardware system or module development, with at least 5 years in team leadership or project management within complex system environments., • Proven end-to-end product development experience, including specification, architecture, prototyping, verification, industrialization, and commercial deployment., • Successful management of multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, mechatronics, electronics, automation, and software engineers., • Demonstrated ability to deliver robust, manufacturable, and scalable hardware architectures in demanding technical contexts. Skills & Competencies • Deep technical expertise across mechanical, mechatronic, electronic, and automation engineering, with the ability to challenge technical choices, guide architecture, and reinforce technical excellence across the hardware organization., • Exceptional creativity and problem-solving abilities, with a strong aptitude for identifying root causes, anticipating system-level bottlenecks, and implementing effective, pragmatic solutions., • Ability to balance off-the-shelf solutions and innovative approaches, leveraging design optimization, process simplification, and breakthrough technologies to accelerate development and optimize cost., • Strong cross-functional leadership, comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment and ensuring that requirements, testing strategies, and system-level validation are aligned across teams., • Clear and structured communication, with strong documentation skills that ensure transparency and alignment throughout development cycles., • Fluency in French and English is required Work Environment The position is onsite, based at our office located at 5 Impasse Reille in Paris (14 th arrondissement).The workspace combines modern classic offices with advanced laboratory rooms, designed to foster collaboration between computer scientists and biologists. This setup supports our mission to tackle the challenges of DNA synthesis and writing, encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork and innovation. In 2026, our offices will relocate to a new headquarters in the center of Paris (near Notre-Dame Cathedral). This state-of-the-art facility, under construction, will offer an inspiring and accessible setting, to host our growing team. About the recruitment process To respect everyone's time, we aim to keep the process efficient and reach a decision within a month.
