To manage and maintain the franchise framework of documents (the 'Franchise System') that define the franchising requirements, including any external accreditations and governance of license renewals and non-compliance of license obligations. This role will include frequent national travel. The role holder will take decisions regarding credit risk within delegated competences and provide management with a motivated opinion regarding decisions to be taken at higher levels. About your role: Commercial Operations owns the assurance and governance of power market forecasts and assumptions used across Centrica Power for Investment decisions and operational planning. This role ensures our forecasts are robust, evidence‑based, clearly documented and fit for decision‑making. As a GB Power Markets Lead , you'll work closely with Group Fundamentals & Economics (GF&E), Regulations, commercial teams, modelling specialists and external partners to maintain consistent, defensible inputs for investment and operational planning. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant cross-functional influence. Location: We work flexibly in line with our Flexible First working arrangements believing that empowered colleagues are happier and more productive. There will, however, be a requirement to attend meetings across our Windsor, Reading and London offices. Responsibilities of the role: * Lead governance of GB power market forecasts and assumptions, ensuring consistent standards, documentation and audit trails for investment, contracting and operational decisions. * Define the appropriate forecast inputs for different decision contexts, determining when to use GF&E fundamentals, forward‑curve‑based views or evidence‑based adjustments. * Translate GB market developments (e.g. design changes, code updates, new products and emerging behaviours) into clear forecast implications and testable hypotheses for Centrica Power. * Conduct structured "material change" reviews to explain shifts in asset economics or portfolio outcomes and prevent unexplained variances entering decisions. * Align forecasts with operational reality by working closely with Trading, Operations and asset teams. * Maintain a single source of truth for GB assumptions, including inputs, rationale, sensitivities, limitations and refresh cadence. * Deliver regular forecast and assumptions packs, drive cross‑functional alignment and escalate risks with clear options. * Develop decision‑specific alternative views where required, using simplified simulations, market data and historic analysis (without replicating full fundamental modelling). * Focus on governance, assurance and decision‑use of forecasts, not day‑to‑day market monitoring or ownership of dispatch/optimisation models. Here's what we're looking for: * Degree (or equivalent experience) in a quantitative or analytical discipline. * Relevant training in power markets, forecasting, analytics or risk/governance is advantageous * Substantial relevant experience in GB power markets (market analytics, trading support, energy consultancy, utility/IPP commercial, market design/policy teams or forecasting. * Demonstrable experience owning or supporting market view/forecast governance (release notes, change logs, scenarios, sensitivities, audit trails). * Strong understanding of GB market mechanics relevant to asset valuation and operations: forward pricing, balancing/imbalance, constraints/local signals, Capacity Market, ancillary services and key code/market reforms. * Ability to translate market developments into commercial implications for different asset types (energy storage, peakers, CCGT, renewables). * Confident stakeholder engagement. Able to challenge constructively, reconcile differing views and land decisions with clear rationale. * Hands‑on experience shaping or challenging market forecasts, with enough modelling literacy to assess strengths, weaknesses and relevance. * Skilled at producing concise, high‑quality decision outputs for senior audiences. * High ownership, sound judgement and comfort operating in ambiguity. Responsibilities of the role: * Develop and maintain a UK & Ireland grid constraints opportunity map, identifying where constraints occur, what drives them and how assets can monetise or mitigate them. * Analyse constraint frequency, severity and system service potential to support commercial opportunity valuation, incorporating outages, reinforcement plans, queue movements and new connections. * Provide grid‑led insight for asset and portfolio decisions, including location screening, technology fit, access risk and constraint exposure. * Stay across key grid and regulatory developments, contributing SME input to consultations and industry forums. * Interpret rule and code changes, producing clear briefs and recommended actions. * Support revenue optimisation by feeding grid insights into dispatch, bidding and operational priorities. * Lead engagement with external modelling and consultancy partners - defining scope, challenging assumptions and converting outputs into actionable decisions. * Strengthen relationships with NESO, DNOs, TOs, industry bodies and peers to stay ahead of emerging constraint drivers and access developments. * Run a simple governance cadence, including a constraints watchlist, decision triggers and concise monthly updates. * Partner with connections and delivery teams (not owning day‑to‑day applications) to provide intelligence, translation and strategic decision support. * Provide assumptions for project value drivers related to network connection, losses, constraints and curtailment. * Support due diligence on potential investment opportunities alongside SMEs across the business. Here's what we're looking for: * Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems or equivalent experience. * Professional registration (Chartered or working towards) is desirable. * Training in Grid Code, connection standards or power systems. * Proven experience with GB, and ideally Irish, electricity networks, with strong understanding of constraints, curtailment and access risk for generation and storage. * Deep knowledge of UK grid connections, testing and compliance processes. * Strong grasp of how grid issues translate into commercial impact. * Working knowledge of Grid Code, CUSC, BSC and DNO connection frameworks. * Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality grid intelligence outputs, including constraint mapping and forward‑looking risk indicators. * Confident external engagement with DNOs, NESO, TOs and consultants, with the ability to challenge assumptions and translate findings into decisions. * Strong analytical skills with large time‑series datasets; Excel and Power BI essential, SQL/Python desirable. * Familiarity with grid modelling tools (e.g., PowerFactory, PSS/E) is a plus. * Excellent communication skills, able to explain grid topics clearly to non‑specialists. * Understanding of ancillary services and technology capabilities. * Ability to use reinforcement plans to identify evolving constraint and system service opportunities.
