Reports to: Head Chef / Kitchen Manager Job Purpose: The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and smooth running of the kitchen. In an Indian restaurant setting, the Kitchen Porter will assist chefs by keeping the kitchen clean, handling basic preparation tasks, and ensuring that equipment and utensils are ready for use. Skills & Requirements: • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment., • Good team player with a positive attitude., • Willingness to learn about Indian cuisine and kitchen practices., • Physical stamina to lift heavy items (e.g., rice bags, tandoor trays)., • Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter (preferred but not essential). Duties and Responsibilities: · Oversee efficient kitchen operations by supervising staff, offering training, and providing ongoing guidance. · Prepare and cook a wide variety of Indian Asian dishes in line with the restaurant’s menu, ensuring food is hygienic, nutritious, and meets established quality standards. · Exhibit expertise in traditional Indian curries and introduce a monthly signature “Dish of the Month” to sustain customer engagement. · Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations. · Conduct monthly stocktakes and manage daily food orders according to UK purchasing standards. · Uphold high food quality, control portion sizes, and follow standardized recipes for consistency and minimal waste. · Promptly resolve food-related complaints. · Manage staff scheduling to ensure optimal coverage. · Oversee performance reviews, delegate tasks, manage inventory, reduce waste, and maintain the freshness of perishables. · Conduct taste tests, preserve authentic flavours, source premium Indian spices, herbs, and ingredients. · Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including food hygiene standards and safe food handling practices. Skills/Qualifications/Experience: · Proven relevant experience, preferably with knowledge of Indian cuisine. · Strong culinary skills and a passion for food. · Excellent organisational and time management abilities. · Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure. · Strong communication and teamwork skills. · Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is required.
Lead and supervise front-of-house staff during service. Delegate responsibilities, manage shift schedules, and ensure that team performance meets operational and customer service standards. Maintain high levels of guest satisfaction by managing service flow, ensuring prompt and friendly service, and resolving complaints effectively. Oversee daily floor operations, including opening and closing procedures, cleanliness, table setups, and visual presentation. Support the onboarding of new staff members and conduct on-the-job training to maintain high service quality and team consistency. Ensure full adherence to health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards. Monitor usage levels, manage inventory, and place restocking orders to ensure availability of essential service items. Assist with daily reporting and staff performance reviews. Provide feedback and operational updates to senior management.
