Our client is looking for a Transport Planner with at least two years with planning and general haulage experience. Black Country Homeforce is our in-house building maintenance team that operates throughout Birmingham and the Black Country. Homeforce are responsible for delivering over £2 million worth of disabled adaptations, responsive repairs and planned maintenance such as replacement kitchens and bathrooms as well as other domestic works and carrying out company-wide fire safety upgrade works and installs and ensuring all works are delivered in line with all necessary fire safety legislation guidance and group delivery protocols. Please note that this role will involve working evenings, weekends and bank holidays and supporting an out of hours rota. Job Description: Duties of the role include, but are not limited to: To execute works in accordance with trade qualifications and assist other trade operatives to fulfil their work orders. Be able to organise workload and complete works in accordance with trade standards and current building regulations. Ensure works completed are to the highest standard and are correctly completed first time as reasonably practicable. Ensure selection and procurement of materials for the execution of the works are correct and are appropriate and to sufficient standard to avoid any disputes in relation to the finished product. Ensure risk assessments and other documentation are completed in accordance with company policies. Participate as a multi skilled operative in the delivery of an effective out of hours’ emergency repair service on a rota system. Person Specification: Must have an NVQ Level 2 City and Guilds in the recognised trade Must have experience of working within owner-occupier and rented properties and working with a range of customers, including those who would be considered vulnerable. Must have an excellent technical ability, with good knowledge to the appropriate quality standards, building regulations and fire safety regulations. Must have an ability to complete works in accordance with trade qualifications, demonstrating a wide range of trade skills in addition to primary trade – (plastering, tiling, plumbing, carpentry, glazing, fencing, ground works). Transport Manager & Compliance (CPC) • Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Operator’s Licence., • Ensure full compliance with DVSA requirements, Operator Licensing rules, tachograph legislation, and the Working Time Directive., • Maintain fleet roadworthiness through robust maintenance schedules, inspections, and defect reporting., • Oversee driver compliance including licence checks, CPC training, infringements, and standards of behaviour., • Stay ahead of changes in transport legislation and adapt business practices accordingly., • Prepare for and manage DVSA audits and any public inquiries., • Maintain accurate records and liaise with the Traffic Commissioner and DVSA when required. People Management • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of drivers, planners, and operational staff., • Set clear objectives, carry out regular performance reviews, and support development., • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and compliance across the operation. What We’re Looking For Proven experience in a senior logistics, transport, or operations management role. Valid Transport Manager CPC (National essential; International desirable). Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and Operator Licence obligations. Commercially minded, with experience managing budgets and negotiating contracts. Confident leader with excellent communication and people-management skills. Comfortable using TMS, fleet tracking systems, and Microsoft Office. A calm, solutions-focused approach and the ability to perform under pressure.
