Job Summary: To support design activities that will provide mechanical design solutions from initial concept through to product manufacture. Scope of Responsibilities: The scope of responsibilities could cover the entire project or a module of the project, and the team size varies accordingly. Ensure all applicable mechanical design work will meet company, airframer, regulatory and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities and Duties: • Responsible for the design and detail modeling of a variety of suite components in order to meet programme requirements., • Produce designs to meet specified cost/weight targets., • Design Engineers will be expected to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers., • Participate in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process., • The selection and application of materials and processes appropriate to each design element., • Ensure the successful integration of each design element within the product as a whole., • Check engineering packages., • Participate in the validation of the product (using such methods as prototyping, test, DFMEA)., • Follow and contribute to the development of the Best Practice guidelines., • From time to time, Design Engineers must be prepared to undertake tasks outside of their normal duties as requested by their immediate supervisors. Candidate skills & requirements Knowledge, Experience, Training and Qualifications: • Qualified to a minimum of degree in a Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering field. Alternatively a HNC/HND or an equivalent qualification in Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering apprenticeship, with extensive experience in mechanical systems design, developing concept and detailing engineering solutions., • Proficient with experience in CATIA V5 (or other 3D CAD packages) and Product Life Management (PLM) Systems, • The applicant should have an understanding of the effective application of tolerances and a working knowledge of manufacturing processes, as well as OEM installation requirements., • A working knowledge of these main methods of manufacture; sheet metal fabrication, plastics vacuum forming, CNC machining., • Ability to read mechanical design drawings and specifications.
