About the Role As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will support students aged 11–16 who require additional help managing behaviour, emotions, and engagement with learning. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and SEN staff to help students remain regulated, focused, and positively involved in school life. The role includes 1:1 support, small group interventions, and in‑class behaviour support across a range of subjects. Key Responsibilities Provide targeted support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs Implement behaviour strategies and de‑escalation techniques Support students to access learning and manage emotions effectively Build strong, consistent, and positive relationships with pupils Assist teaching staff in maintaining a calm, inclusive classroom environment Support social skills, resilience, and emotional regulation Supervise pupils during transitions, break, or lunch where required Work collaboratively with pastoral and SEN teams The Ideal Candidate Will: Hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or Be a graduate (psychology, education, criminology, youth work, or related disciplines desirable) from a UK University. Have experience working with young people with behavioural or SEMH needs (school, youth work, mentoring, care, or similar settings) Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills Have strong spoken and written English, essential for communication, modelling language, and supporting learning Be calm, resilient, and confident in challenging situations Show excellent communication and interpersonal skills Be proactive, adaptable, and committed to inclusive education This Role Is Ideal For: Behaviour or SEN Teaching Assistants Graduates seeking hands-on secondary school experience Aspiring teachers, educational psychologists, or youth professionals Individuals passionate about values‑driven education and behaviour support Pay & Benefits £95–£115 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications Long-term, stable placement Full-time role with potential for progression Ongoing support from a dedicated Smile Education consultant Experience within a well‑established, values‑focused secondary school Safeguarding & Compliance Smile Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
