Key Projects • Gatwick Airport Decarbonisation: Work on a prestigious project involving the installation of over 12MW of heat pumps at one of the UK’s busiest airports, supporting major sustainability objectives., • Utility Scale Solar and Battery Schemes: Participate in the design and implementation of large-scale solar and battery projects, which provide power to industrial clients, universities, and hospitals., • Decarbonisation Initiatives: Contribute to projects featuring significant air source and water source heat pump installations for government bodies, industrial partners, universities, and healthcare institutions., • Vital Energi Owned Assets: Engage in energy from waste developments and transmission-level battery energy storage solutions within the company’s portfolio. About the role- You will play a crucial role in the Design function by producing calculations, drawings and documentation used to deliver major Renewable Energy, Sustainability, Power Infrastructure and Power Generation projects involved in the transition to Net Zero. As well as receiving tailored support from other experienced Electrical Engineers at all levels, you will be put on a comprehensive development plan designed to encourage internal progression through to the Senior, Principal, Associate Director and Director levels while gaining Chartered status and developing knowledge covering a range of Renewable Energy and Power Generation projects. Key responsibilities. • Developing technical specifications, calculations, electrical designs and drawings used in a variety of projects, • Producing things such as power cable calculations, C&I cabling specifications, cable & interconnection schedule projection and electrical building service designs, • Supporting the compilation and production of design documentation to bespoke project specifications, client specifications and/or legislative compliance, • Inputting into the preparation of HAZOP studies, • Carrying out relevant equipment selection for projects Skills/Experience • Demonstrable experience producing electrical designs for Power Generation, Power Transmission, Renewable Energy, Building Services or similar equipment, • Ideally educated to at least HNC/HND level in Electrical Engineering, preferably to Degree level, • Knowledge of BS7671 Wiring Regulations, • Experience with Amtech design software (advantageous), • An understanding of pneumatic & hydraulics (advantageous), • Experience with motor VSD controls and MCC equipment (advantageous), • Ex-Forces and Forces leavers with transferrable experience are also invited to apply, • Full UK manual driving licence The Package: • Salary negotiable DOE, • Car/ Car Allowance, • Contributory Company Pension Scheme, • Non-contributory death-in-service insurance, • Employee Assistance Programme, • 25 Days Holiday plus 8 days bank holidays., • Additional holidays awarded in line with length of service, • Option to purchase/sell additional holidays, • Onsite gym/wellbeing centre at our Blackburn Head Office, • Discounted gym membership across the UK, • EV charging points where possible The company is opposed to all forms of discrimination and will select for employment, training and promotion on the basis of suitability for the job and/ or merit. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Engineering Manager to lead all engineering functions at our COMAH-regulated chemical manufacturing site. This role is pivotal in ensuring asset integrity, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of plant reliability, availability, and safety. The ideal Site Engineering Manager candidate will have a strong background in chemical or process industries, excellent leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of COMAH and related engineering legislation. • Key Responsibilities of Site Engineering Manager :Lead and manage all site engineering activities, including maintenance, projects, reliability, and utilities., • Maintain and improve asset integrity and site infrastructure in line with Upper Tier COMAH requirements., • Working knowledge and understanding of compliance with COMAH, PUWER, DSEAR, LOLER, and other relevant legislation., • As the Site Engineering Manager , you will manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and external contractors., • Develop and execute the site’s engineering strategy, including planned preventive maintenance (PPM), asset management, and capital project delivery., • Serve as the engineering lead for Process Safety Management activities, including Mechanical Integrity programs and Safety Critical Equipment., • Own and improve Engineering KPIs related to downtime, reliability, cost, and HSE compliance., • Collaborate with Operations, SHEQ, Projects, and external stakeholders including the HSE., • Manage engineering budgets, contractors, and vendors to deliver efficient and cost-effective services., • Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis (RCA), reliability-centred maintenance (RCM), and lean methodologies., • Qualifications required for Site Engineering Manager :Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Process Engineering, or Time-served HND with significant hands-on engineering leadership experience., • Proven track record in an engineering leadership role within a chemical or process manufacturing environment., • Strong experience on a COMAH regulated site is essential. We work in the construction industry, in a rapidly expanding market for Heat and Power Solutions from renewable energy. As a leading turnkey engineering contractor, we design, construct, install, operate and maintain environmentally friendly energy generating systems and networks. Due to Vital Energi's continued growth, we require a Principle and Senior (Civils, Structural, Architectural) design engineers based at our Head Office in Blackburn, to work in this exciting and growing sector of the industry. The Role: Reporting to the Principal Engineer (CSA), this role involves a broad range of detailed design including District Heating excavation, tunnelling and support design, energy centre design, and general foundation, pipe support, builders-work design. This will include taking concept designs and producing a fully detailed design for the projects team to install. This will at times include initial project conceptual work, site investigations and surveys, client meetings and input into project submissions and presentations. Working within a team of different grades of construction design professionals you will be responsible for delivering the construction design across multiple teams and projects including energy centre layouts, structural steel details, architectural details, and planning / building regulations submissions. Other key duties involve the writing of specifications for the procurement of construction products and services, and liaison with all other internal and external design disciplines to deliver a fully coordinated solution. Familiarity with industrial and commercial construction and refurbishment technologies is essential. Key Duties: • Produce the design of energy centres & associated construction infrastructure up to the point of handover., • Developing the design staff and teams with a ‘hands on’ approach to meet the quality standards and to strict deadlines., • Review cost implications within design, undertake lifecycle costing analysis, and value engineering., • Effectively deal with design issues and minimise their impact., • Liaising with internal and external designers, customers, and Vital Energi’s in-house project teams, and lead multi-disciplinary design & coordination reviews providing technical due diligence., • Awareness and appreciation of other disciplines including mechanical and electrical., • Fluency with BIM and the ability to coordinate multi-disciplines with our in-house CAD team., • Be proactive and ensuring compliance with CDM requirements and our in in-house design processes., • Conduct and contribute to HAZOP Studies, Risk Assessments, etc., • Fluency with current Building Regulations, industry guidance such as RIBA, RICS, ICE etc, and all pertinent legislation., • Ensuring compliance with legislation, engineering best practices in line with company procedures such as Building Safety Act, CDM 2015, Principal Designer duties, etc., • Assistance in specifying the construction aspects for tendering works., • Work closely with the client to further develop relationships and promote the company., • Undertake site inspection reports and providing technical support during construction. The Person: The successful candidates will ideally be qualified at Degree level, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a design/ design build environment. The individuals will have: • Be a construction industry professional (Chartered or working towards)., • Have experience in contributing to design risk reviews., • Have experience with training and mentoring construction design staff., • Sound understanding of design principles including steel frame, reinforced concrete and traditional construction methods., • Fluency with current Building Regulations., • Fluency with National Design Specifications (NES/NBS) and competent in AutoCAD (2D)., • Experience/ competence of being effective communicators, who are confident and focused, with the ability to manage their time and duties in a professional and effective way., • Be able to demonstrate excellent technical ability and communication skills both written and verbal., • Be fluent with the RIBA Plan of Work and relevant design standards and stages.
