SEN Teaching Assistant – Hemel Hempstead We are seeking a resilient, proactive, and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Hemel Hempstead as soon as possible. This full-time role will be based within a Year 3 classroom, supporting pupils with special educational needs and high levels of challenging behaviour. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is confident in managing behaviour, committed to inclusive practice, and passionate about making a positive difference in children’s lives. Key Responsibilities: Provide dedicated support within a Year 3 classroom, working closely with the class teacher to deliver structured and engaging lessons. Support pupils with additional needs, including those displaying challenging behaviour, helping them access learning and remain engaged. Implement behaviour management strategies consistently, promoting a safe, calm, and purposeful learning environment. Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional regulation and social development. Work one-to-one and with small groups to reinforce learning, develop independence, and encourage positive behaviour choices. Assist in adapting resources and activities to meet individual learning and behavioural needs. Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to teaching staff and SENCO. Support with personal care where required (training provided if necessary). Requirements: A valid DBS check on the Update Service is preferred. Previous experience supporting children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour, ideally within a primary school setting. Confidence in managing behaviour using positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies. A calm, patient, and consistent approach with strong resilience. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential
