Location: Flexible UK (Hybrid Working) Job Type: Permanent | Full Time Sector: Nuclear | Defence | Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering We are seeking an experienced Principal EC&I Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across a portfolio of complex engineering projects within the nuclear sector. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of EC&I design activities, ensuring engineering quality, maintaining technical governance and supporting project delivery from concept and feasibility through detailed design, installation, commissioning and operational support. Working closely with clients, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will play a key role in delivering innovative, safe and compliant engineering solutions for some of the UK's most strategically important infrastructure programmes. • Lead the delivery of Electrical, Control and Instrumentation design activities across complex engineering projects., • Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams., • Act as the technical authority for EC&I design, ensuring engineering excellence throughout the project lifecycle., • Review and approve engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation, drawings and specifications., • Mentor and develop engineers, supporting technical capability and professional growth., • Develop and oversee electrical distribution, instrumentation and control system designs., • Produce and review design deliverables including:, • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), • Cable schedules and cable routing layouts, • Instrument loop diagrams, • Control philosophies, • Functional Design Specifications (FDS), • Cause & Effect matrices, • Equipment specifications, • Control panel and marshalling cabinet designs, • I/O schedules, • Earthing and bonding designs, • Ensure integration of electrical, control and instrumentation systems across multidisciplinary projects., • Lead EC&I engineering activities from concept through detailed design, manufacture, installation and commissioning., • Support Project Managers with technical planning, resource allocation and programme delivery., • Identify and manage engineering risks, opportunities and technical challenges., • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed to agreed quality, cost and schedule objectives., • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders., • Lead technical meetings, design reviews and engineering workshops., • Provide expert advice during design development, procurement and project delivery., • Support bids, proposals and business development activities through technical input., • Ensure compliance with engineering procedures, quality standards and nuclear regulatory requirements., • Support engineering assurance, configuration management and design verification processes., • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, hazard studies and engineering substantiation activities., • Promote continuous improvement and engineering best practice throughout the organisation., • Significant experience delivering EC&I engineering projects within nuclear or another highly regulated industry., • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams., • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, control systems and instrumentation design., • Experience producing and reviewing complex EC&I design documentation., • Knowledge of engineering lifecycle processes, design assurance and technical governance., • Strong stakeholder management, leadership and communication skills., • Experience managing engineering risk, quality and technical compliance. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: • Nuclear new build, decommissioning or defence programmes., • PLC, DCS and SCADA systems., • Functional Safety and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)., • Control panel and MCC design., • Industrial communication networks., • HV/LV electrical distribution., • Plant commissioning and operational support., • Cyber security for industrial control systems., • Digital engineering and BIM environments. Experience working with recognised industry standards including: • IEC 61513, • IEC 61508, • IEC 60880, • IEC 61226, • BS 7671, • BS EN electrical standards, • Relevant ONR guidance and nuclear quality requirements., • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline., • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards professional registration, is highly desirable. Due to the nature of the projects, successful applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
