The right candidate will: Wokingham Borough Council’s aim is to enable our most vulnerable children and young people in care to live close to the things they hold dear – close to family, friends, community, and those who care for them most. This service comprises a multi-building children’s home including a 4-bedroom Emotional Behaviour Disorder/Difficulties (EBD) home and up to 2 smaller Complex homes. • To lead and be responsible for the effective management of the residential homes, and the provision of a professional, child centred service in accordance with the relevant regulations, legislation, guidance, codes of practice, policy and procedures., • The role will oversee the management of 2 children’s homes and the services provided to them in each Unit. We require the following: • Professional qualification in (recognised and current) Level 5 Leadership and Management in Residential Childcare, or equivalent, • 3 years as a manager in a children’s residential setting, • Proven ability to ensure that services are delivered to the highest achievable professional standards, that quality standards are identified and measured, and that remedial action is undertaken where necessary. This project serves children with complex needs, offering a stable environment. This is the borough's first new council-run home in over a decade, designed to support care-experienced children. Key Responsibilities * Lead, manage, and develop a newly recruited team, including: o 2 Deputy Managers o 3 Senior Residential Support Workers o 10 Residential Support Workers (including 4 Waking Night staff) o Handy Person o Cook o Domestic Cleaner * Oversee all onboarding, induction, and training processes for new staff. * Support preparations for Ofsted registration, including reviewing and contributing to required documentation. * Act as the registered manager on the Ofsted application, undertake the Ofsted interview, and manage the registration visit. * Ensure the home is ready for opening on completion of construction, maintaining high standards of safeguarding, quality, and compliance. * Provide flexible support during occasional on‑call duties or when children's needs require additional time. Requirements • Within the last 5 years, worked for at least 2 years in a position relevant to the residential care of children and worked for at least one year in a role requiring the supervision and management of staff working in a care role., • Once appointed to the role, a successful Ofsted Fit Person interview must be completed within 6 months., • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills., • Comprehensive understanding of Ofsted requirements and children's residential care regulations.
