New York
About the Job We're hiring a Chief of Staff to support and own the operational core of the company alongside the founders. This is a broad, high-ownership role with no fixed job description. Some weeks, the job will mean building a financial model or running a fundraise process. Other weeks untangling a vendor contract, running payroll, contracting insurance coverage, standing up a hiring process, preparing board materials, or driving a cross-functional initiative. The role is deliberately designed to expose you to every part of the business at a well-funded, high growth startup. What you’ll do 1. Run the back office. Payroll, benefits, insurance, vendor accounts, expense management, entity filings, and the recurring compliance calendar. Unglamorous but high consequence., 2. Own the paperwork that matters. Contracts, NDAs, the document archive, the data room, the cap table. Know where everything lives and make sure it's correct., 3. Keep the company's rhythm. Meeting prep and follow-through, weekly priorities, investor updates, and the light reporting that keeps everyone pointed in the same direction., 4. Take projects off the CEO's desk. A compliance certification, a hiring process, a tool rollout, a customer onboarding — driven start to finish, ending in a decision rather than a status update., 5. Support legal and finance. Work with our outside accountants/counsel on the monthly close, track burn and runway, and keep spend visible. Build the models when we need them. How the role evolves Chief of Staff is a launchpad, not a destination. The expectation is that after 18–24 months you move into a functional leadership role — operations, finance, strategy, product, or a business unit — or take on a scoped general management mandate. We'll be explicit with you about that path as you grow. Required Qualifications • Experience in investment banking, private equity, management consulting, corporate development, or a strategy / business operations / finance role at a hypergrowth startup, • Exceptional organization and follow-through. Nothing you touch gets dropped, and you don't need to be reminded twice, • Strong analytical, financial fluency & exceptional written communication. You can turn a complicated situation into a one-page memo an executive can act on, • Demonstrated ownership of complex projects with real stakes and multiple stakeholders, • Comfort with ambiguity. You do not need a defined scope, a playbook, or someone to tell you what matters this week, • High judgment and discretion — you will be exposed to compensation, personnel matters, board discussions, and confidential strategy, • Willingness to move fluidly between strategic work and unglamorous execution, sometimes in the same afternoon, • Genuine interest in working at a small company, with everything that implies, • This is an in-person position in NYC. Compensation: $85,000 – $125,000 base, plus equity and benefits. About WaffleLabs WaffleLabs is building the world’s most advanced large data model for understanding personas and human intuition.
