The mission of the Community Connections program at Job Path is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities are visible in society and are recognized as equal citizens. We work one-on-one with people using a true person centered approach in order to foster relationships between people and their communities. We are looking for DSPs to work with participants who are new to JobPath as they are coming in through our transitional programs. Our cohort changes and we support people all throughout the city but at the moment we have participants located in the Bronx, Harlem, and Brooklyn. Our current cohort has participants who are interested in sports and fitness (especially swimming and bike riding), creative arts (such as video editing, wood crafts, and other arts), computers and gaming, creative arts (singing, dancing, acting), and working with children. Our cohort has a range of personality and communication styles so we welcome anyone to apply but ideally we are looking for DSPs who are willing to help these participants adjust to our day hab program and build their programming. Days and times will vary depending on but we can also supplement hours with other open shifts in the department. Typical shifts are 9am to 3pm or 10am to 4pm, though there is variability in schedules based on the needs of the people we support. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional growth and future focus/career exploration as well as professional growth. * Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable. * Develop positive relationships with participants, colleagues and school/center personnel. * Attends all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified (including Saturday and evening trainings). * Assist with monitoring and maintaining the rules of the program and upholding the afterschool model. * Plan and prepare culminating events for participants to showcase their activities. * Ensure participants are prepared and able to illustrate what they learned in culminating events. * Assist with organizing parent family culminating engagement events. * Engage with parents and guardians as necessary in a professional manner. * Discuss behavior problems , safety concerns and situations with supervisor as they emerge, and completing necessary documentation and paperwork. * Mandated Reporter. * Resolve conflict within your group while seeking assistance from other staff, supervisors and directors when necessary. * Foster a positive youth development approach focusing on , strength’s-based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, independence, generosity, mastery safety, and community to participants. * Supervise support staff assigned to your group (including but not limited to assistant group leader, interns, volunteers, etc.). * Track and support participant’s development and growth areas. Engage and facilitate group conversations, tracking and supporting students’ participant’s academic success. * Responsible for the safe arrival and dismissal of all program participants. * Demonstrate effective classroom management skills. * Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are locked away securely at the end of each day. * Available to work during holidays and OST days (13-15 days). * Maintain all required records for your group, including attendance.. * Maintain strict adherence to policies and procedures at all times. * Participate in afterschool events and trips. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications * Must be at least 18 years old. * Must be at leat High School/ GED Diploma and 1 year related experience in leading and participating in youth group development related activities required. * Experience building a camp culture through chants, team building activities, and community building preferred. * Can contribute a talent or experience in arts, music, crafts, etc. a plus. * A commitment to working with youth from a variety of backgrounds, while providing high quality services. * Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
