Job DescriptionDescription: POSITION SUMMARY: The YMCA of Greater Bergen County is seeking a self-motivated and organized individual who will be primarily responsible for the supervision of the designated swimming and surrounding areas while creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. YMCA of Greater Bergen County operates traditional day and resident camps in Harriman State Park, NY, along Lake Kanawauke, providing a beautiful natural setting. The camp is 45 minutes from Hackensack, where our YMCA is located; all counselors and campers are bused to camp from the YMCA. Camp activities include swimming, boating, fishing, arts & crafts, sports & games, archery, nature, hiking, rock climbing, and challenge/low ropes course. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Be identifiable with YMCA Lifeguard shirt, whistle, swimsuit and has the rescue tube with them. The Rescue tube must be properly worn, with the strap on the shoulder and holding it in front of the body. Actively apply and enforce all pool rules and proactively address members to maintain a safe environment. Knows, understands, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintain constant surveillance of the designated swimming area.
