Job Description About Us Lehman College Continuing Education runs a high-quality summer camp program dedicated to safe, enriching, and fun experiences for children and teens. Our team fosters learning, creativity, and personal growth in a supportive and inclusive environment. Position Overview The Assistant Director will work in close partnership with the Director to support pre-season planning and the day-to-day operations of the summer camp. This role involves assisting with administration, staffing, programming, marketing and logistics, as well as camper and family relations. The Assistant Director will be a key player in ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience for all campers and staff. Responsibilities Program & Operations • Assist in planning and executing daily camp activities that are safe, engaging, and educational., • Oversee setup, maintenance, and organization of camp spaces, supplies, and equipment., • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of counselors and instructors., • Supervise and mentor staff during daily operations, ensuring adherence to camp and college policies., • Serve as an additional point of contact for parents and guardians., • Assist the Director with parent orientations and program communications., • Maintain program records, incident reports, and documentation., • Assist with ordering and purchasing supplies and maintenance of camp facilities and resources., • Ensure compliance with NYS Department of Health, and Lehman College safety regulations., • Support registration, recruitment, and camp-related correspondence as needed., • Minimum 21 years of age., • Experience in K-12 education, youth development, or recreation, • 2–3 years supervisory or administrative experience in a camp, school, recreation or youth program, • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, • Ability to demonstrate creativity, ability to motivate children, positive attitude, • Ability to participate fully in camp activities (standing, walking, running) throughout the entire day, • Ability to work effectively staff, and families in a professional and supportive manner, • Ability to follow directions and finish tasks as assigned, • Gain hands-on leadership experience under an experienced Camp Director., • Work in a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment., • Make a meaningful impact on the lives of children, teens, and families.Company DescriptionWith more than 60,000 alumni and 12,000 students, Lehman College serves the Bronx and our surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center.
