Job Description Summary: Streetwork Project is an innovative outreach-counseling program for homeless youth in Harlem, which utilizes a harm reduction approach. Under this umbrella, Case managers provide comprehensive services to adolescents and young adults impacted by homelessness and involved in street activities (gangs, violence, drug use/sale and survival sex). This position will focus on providing support and services to LGBT youth. Services provided include assessment, case planning, case facilitation and management, counseling, referrals, outreach, crisis transportation, daily living services (food, shower, respite), triage counseling, recreational activities and support groups. The Case manager coordinates with Safe Horizon supporting programs and local agencies to provide short- and long-term care necessary to meet the wide range of needs related to homeless adolescents. Job Description Summary Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. The core service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a non-judgmental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high-risk behaviors. As part of our continuum of services we operate an emergency housing program for homeless youth in NYC, Streetwork Overnight. The Overnight is a 24 bed facility for youth ages 16-20. It is open from 7 pm to 10 am 7 days a week. Casual Youth Advocates work overnight hours to support the youth while they are in our crisis shelter. As part of our continuum of services, we also provide overnight outreach in teams of two seven nights a week (7 pm to 3 am), throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Casual Youth Advocates work overnight hours to meet the most disenfranchised youth while they are in crisis. Casual Youth Advocates work part-time and on-call, filling in for full-time youth advocate absences at the Overnight and Outreach program. These individuals provide comprehensive services to adolescents and young adults impacted by homelessness and involved in street activities (gangs, violence, drug use/sale and survival sex). Services provided by casual youth advocates are the same as full-time youth advocates and include assessment, case planning, case facilitation and management, counseling, referrals, outreach, crisis transportation, daily living services (food, shower, respite), and groups. These Youth Advocates coordinate with Safe Horizon supporting programs and local agencies to provide short- and long-term care necessary to meet the wide range of needs related to homeless adolescents. Job Description The Director of Food Services is responsible for the overall planning, direction, and daily operation of the food and nutrition program at an adult day care center serving older adults and adults with disabilities in Brooklyn, New York. This role ensures the delivery of safe, nutritious, culturally appropriate, and appealing meals and snacks that meet participants’ dietary needs, promote health and well-being, and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (including New York State Department of Health and NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene standards). Key Responsibilities Plan, develop, and oversee menus that meet nutritional guidelines for older adults, accommodate special diets (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed, allergy-related, cultural/religious preferences), and support participants’ health goals. Direct all food service operations, including purchasing, receiving, storage, preparation, service, and sanitation. Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate kitchen and dining staff; foster a positive, team-oriented work environment. Ensure strict compliance with food safety, sanitation, and infection-control standards (ServSafe or equivalent); maintain required records and prepare for health department inspections. Manage the food service budget, control food and labor costs, and implement cost-effective practices without compromising quality or nutrition. Coordinate with nursing, activities, and social work staff to address individual dietary needs and integrate nutrition education into the day program. Maintain accurate inventory, vendor relationships, and procurement processes; source high-quality ingredients that reflect the diverse cultural preferences of Brooklyn’s communities. Develop and update policies and procedures for the food service department; lead continuous quality improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications Associates/Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Dietetics, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive supervisory or management experience in food service, preferably in healthcare, senior living, adult day care, or similar congregate settings. Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (or ability to obtain within 30–60 days of hire). Strong knowledge of nutrition for older adults, therapeutic diets, and New York State / NYC food service and health regulations. Proven ability to manage budgets, inventory, and staff. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse older adult populations and multidisciplinary teams. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and any required health clearances. Preferred Qualifications Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential or Certified Dietary Manager (CDM). Experience in adult day health care, senior centers, or long-term care settings in New York City. Bilingual abilities (especially Spanish, Russian, Chinese, or other languages commonly spoken in Brooklyn). Familiarity with electronic menu management or dietary software systems.
