We are seeking an experienced Conflicts Attorney to join the firm’s Risk Management / Conflicts team in a dynamic, global environment. Note: This role can also be housed in San Francisco, CA | Washington, DC | Boston, MA | Denver, CO | Palo Alto, CA | San Diego, CA| Los Angeles, CA. About the Role The Conflicts Attorney will serve as a key advisor on professional responsibility and risk management issues, independently reviewing, analyzing, and resolving conflicts of interest to support the firm’s new business intake, lateral hiring, and ongoing client engagements. This role requires strong legal ethics expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with partners, associates, and leadership across multiple offices and jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities • Independently review and analyze new client/matter intake submissions, lateral hire conflicts, marketing initiatives, and other requests to identify potential legal, ethical, and business conflicts of interest., • Conduct thorough research using internal conflicts databases, external research tools, public records, and corporate/family tree analysis to assess entity relationships and adverse party issues., • Provide clear, timely advice to attorneys and firm leadership on conflict resolution strategies, including drafting and negotiating conflict waivers, implementing ethical screens/walls, and recommending mitigation measures., • Draft specialized engagement letters, waiver language, outside counsel guideline responses, and other compliance documentation as needed., • Assist with lateral attorney onboarding, including comprehensive conflicts clearance for incoming partners and associates., • Escalate complex or high-risk issues to senior conflicts counsel, the General Counsel, or Ethics Committee while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism., • Ensure compliance with ABA Model Rules, state bar rules, and international professional responsibility standards applicable to the firm’s global practice., • Contribute to process improvements, database maintenance, policy updates, and special projects related to risk management in an international context., • Deliver outstanding client service to firm attorneys by responding promptly to inquiries and providing practical, business-oriented guidance. Qualifications • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (multi-jurisdictional admission preferred)., • 2+ years of relevant experience as a Conflicts Attorney, Conflicts Counsel, or in a similar risk management/ethics role at a large or international law firm (BigLaw or equivalent experience strongly preferred)., • In-depth knowledge of conflicts of interest rules (ABA Model Rules, state variations, and international considerations), professional responsibility, and risk management best practices., • Proven ability to analyze complex conflicts scenarios involving global clients, multiple jurisdictions, and sophisticated corporate structures., • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills; ability to explain nuanced ethical issues clearly to non-lawyers and senior partners alike., • Proficiency with conflicts/intake systems (e.g., Intapp Open, Aderant, LegalKEY, or similar); strong Microsoft Office skills., • Detail-oriented with superior organizational abilities to handle high-volume, time-sensitive matters in a fast-paced environment., • Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative, team-oriented setting.
