The provider should have awareness of: life stages and aging process; trauma informed care, Domestic/Intimate Partner/Gender Violence issues, as well as LGBTQ/gender nonconforming or questioning communities and communities of color, using individual, family, group and evidence-based modalities. Primary Responsibilities • Provide long and short-term psychotherapy to clients and collateral family members where appropriate (including crisis intervention) in person or Telehealth in compliance with NYS OMH criteria., • Facilitate time limited and ongoing group therapies as well as structured engagement presentations., • Utilize concurrent clinical documentation in electronic health record (eCR) and data entry (Peer Place) in compliance with NYS Office of Mental Health; Dept for the Aging and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requirements to include: periodic assessment scales; progress notes; treatment plans and treatment plan reviews; incident reports and encounter forms., • Alert immediately the Director of reportable incidents and clients at risk behaviors., • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisor., • Interact with all levels of personnel within the organization. The Legal Department MRNJ works to strengthen the organization’s organizing work by (1) helping to envision and implement leverage strategies (including strategic litigation) that help win our organizing campaigns; (2) providing technical legal support for policy work; and (3) providing legal and support services to high-need immigrant communities and help meet the immediate needs of MRNJ’s members. The Department currently employs approximately 12 attorneys and advocates. Our legal team is integrated into all aspects of the organization’s work. Current Opening: The part-time (approximately 20 hours/week) immigration staff attorney will provide legal representation on a wide range of immigration matters both before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (“EOIR”) and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”), with a particular but non-exclusive focus on UACs, similarly-situated youth, and SIJ. The staff attorney provides legal support for active MRNJ campaigns. The position will be partially remote with work conducted in one of our offices in Elizabeth, Passaic or Perth Amboy. The Senior Social Worker will supervise a team of social workers and counselors and oversee the referral, assessment, and treatment planning process—ensuring adherence to a strict timeline and that the process is completed as quickly as possible. Midtown Community Justice Center offers a diversion program that provides people who are arrested an off-ramp from criminal prosecution: Project Reset. The Center for Justice Innovation operates Project Reset, New York City's pre-arraignment diversion program, in all five boroughs and the Midtown Community Justice Center operates the program in Manhattan. In collaboration with the District Attorney’s Offices, the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, the defense bar and the New York Police Department, Project Reset seeks to create a proportionate response to low-level crime outside of the traditional criminal justice process. Project Reset-eligible community members receive the option to participate in a one session program in advance of their court date. Upon completion of the session, the District Attorney’s Office will decline to prosecute the case. The Midtown Community Justice Center also offers Rapid Reset, which offers the same diversion opportunity to Project Reset-eligible people who show up to court. Midtown Community Justice Center is seeking a Project Reset Social Worker. Reporting to the Project Reset Program Coordinator, the Social Worker will facilitate psychoeducational group-based curricula and provide individual counseling and case management to Project Reset and Rapid Reset participants. When appropriate, the Social Worker will work with clients on a voluntary basis and make referrals to additional services. The Social Worker will also provide clinical support to direct service staff on the Project Reset team and collaborate with Midtown's Clinical Director to ensure quality clinical care through Project Reset. The Social Worker may also be called upon to provide general support to other clinical programs at Midtown Community Justice Center, as needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Conduct group-based programming for Project Reset and Rapid Reset programming for Midtown’s Court Parts, including AP6 and the Emerging Adult Court which serves ages 18–25;, • Conduct case management and individual counseling sessions for Project Reset and Rapid Reset clients that address issues such as substance use, mental health issues, trauma, domestic violence, housing, and vocational needs;, • Offer voluntary short term counseling sessions upon participant completion, as requested and appropriate;, • Support the development of group and individual programming in response to client needs and trends;, • Support Rapid Reset programming at the Midtown Community Justice Center by conducting intakes and screenings, connecting participants to programming, updating compliance, and facilitating group workshops;, • Maintain accurate electronic records in the Center’s internal case management system and in a Salesforce database shared with project partners;, • Collaborate with Program Coordinator to track participant trends and success stories to inform program evaluation and continuous improvement;, • Work with Midtown Community Justice Center’s clinical staff and Case Managers to refer participants to voluntary social services;, • With the support of the Clinical Director and Senior Social Worker, provide clinical guidance to the Project Reset staff;, • Facilitate coordinated service delivery from on-site and community-based partner agencies;, • Identify and cultivate referral options for program participants;, • Support with Project Reset outreach and scheduling as needed;, • Actively engage in new initiatives at Midtown Community Justice Center;, • Participate in staff meetings, team-building exercises, trainings, and site visits;, • Participate in evening and weekend community meetings, events, and programming, as needed; and, • Perform other relevant duties, including coverage and support, as needed to support the Midtown Community Justice Center and Center for Justice Innovation. Qualifications: LMSW and a minimum of 1-2 years prior work in criminal justice and/or a related field required. (FedPro-SDNY) POSITION REPORTS TO: Director, FedPro-SDNY FLSA STATUS: Exempt The City Bar Justice Center furthers access to justice by addressing unmet civil legal needs of New Yorkers struggling with poverty and other systemic socioeconomic barriers. The Justice Center mobilizes law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal institutions to provide pro bono legal services, educates the public on pertinent legal issues, fosters strategic community relationships, and impacts public policy. The City Bar Justice Center annually provides high-quality, free civil legal services benefiting over 27,000 New Yorkers who lack the resources to hire private counsel. CBJC also relies on partnerships with our affiliate, the New York City Bar Association, as well as with law firms, corporate legal departments, solo practitioners, law schools, the courts, and other stakeholders. In the past year, over 3,000 pro bono attorneys donated services to support clinics and client matter work drawn from CBJC’s dozen civil legal services projects. PROGRAM FUNCTION FedPro-SDNY is an innovative initiative providing free, limited-scope legal assistance to pro se plaintiffs and defendants (including incarcerated individuals) litigating civil cases in the SDNY in areas such as employment discrimination (e.g. Title VII, ADA, ADEA), civil and prisoner rights, and a broad range of other claims touching on core individual rights. The staff and volunteers provide limited scope legal assistance at various stages of federal litigation, from service of a complaint right up to trial. FedPro-SDNY services benefit over 1,000 individuals each year. JOB FUNCTION The City Bar Justice Center (CBJC) seeks a candidate committed to expanding access to justice to join our team in a Staff Attorney capacity for CBJC’s Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Project operating in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (FedPro-SDNY). This position reports to FedPro-SDNY’s Director. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: • Serve as part of a team – including volunteer attorney and law student interns – that delivers high-quality legal services to pro se litigants at different stages of federal litigation, including by providing: information and brief advice on the applicability of federal law to claims at issue, and on federal court procedure and individual judges’ rules; brief advice on case strategy, discovery and motion practice, and preparation for trial; explanation of court orders and rulings; mediation and settlement practice; and assisting with the review, drafting, and/or editing of pro se discovery and motion practice documents (note: FedPro-SDNY does not represent litigants in court, but may represent some litigants for settlement purposes)., • Meet with litigants served by FedPro-SDNY either by virtual or in-person consultation at FedPro-SDNY’s courthouse office in downtown Manhattan (and perhaps also on occasion at the Southern District’s White Plains courthouse) and, where applicable, collaborate with a social work support team that provides additional supportive services for some pro se litigants on a case-by-case basis., • Stay abreast of changes and updates to the law and to Court rules and procedures, and assist in supervising pro bono volunteers and interns to provide FedPro-SDNY services., • Must be a New York and S.D.N.Y. bar member in good standing with at least two years of federal litigation experience, including litigating employment and civil rights, and/or experience delivering high-volume client services or clinical legal services., • Excellent writing and editing, oral communication, and organizational skills; ability to work both independently and with others, and to effectively and collegially collaborate with and/or train and mentor an interdisciplinary team comprised of other attorneys, legal assistants and interns, social work support team members, and pro bono volunteers., • Detailed-oriented self-starter with solid legal judgment, an ability to work respectfully and effectively with Court personnel, and a capacity to manage multiple cases, litigants, and projects., • Excellent people and client counseling skills, including a desire and capacity to effectively interact with members of the public in a respectful and sensitive way, some of whom are suspect of institutions and the legal profession, and some of whom experience legal problems compounded by cognitive processing struggles or mild to severe mental health struggles.
