This position blends direct client advocacy, systems navigation, and community empowerment, while also playing a role in training providers and shaping systemic change. Key Responsibilities Crisis Response & Direct Services * Respond to survivors via hotline, walk-in, and emergency requests with compassion and urgency. * Provide safety planning, trauma-informed counseling, and ongoing emotional support. * Support survivors in accessing emergency shelter, transitional housing, or long-term housing options. * Accompany and advocate for survivors in court, at hospitals, and with law enforcement. Advocacy & Resource Navigation * Connect clients to culturally competent legal, medical, mental health, and financial resources. * Help survivors set short- and long-term goals and provide hands-on support in navigating service systems. * Center racial, gender, and economic justice in all advocacy efforts. Program Coordination & Compliance * Maintain accurate case files, documentation, and referral records. * Enter client data in compliance with funder requirements and contribute to monthly/quarterly reports. * Ensure service delivery meets IOOV’s standards and grant objectives. Training, Outreach & Community Engagement * Facilitate peer-led healing circles, survivor support groups, and community workshops. * Deliver training and technical assistance to mainstream providers on LGBTQ+ cultural responsiveness. * Participate in coalitions, task forces, and community forums addressing gender-based violence. Collaboration & Mission Alignment * Work closely with IOOV’s interdisciplinary team to provide wraparound support. * Actively promote equity, inclusion, and survivor empowerment in every aspect of the role. Qualifications Required * Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or related field (or equivalent professional/lived experience). * 1–2 years’ experience in advocacy, crisis response, or case management with LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC communities. * Direct experience supporting survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. * Knowledge of housing systems, safety planning, and social service resources. * Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal). * Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain professional boundaries. * Valid NYS driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. The staff attorney will collaborate with other practice areas at LASNNY to identify and challenge systemic civil rights violations and injustices affecting large groups of our clients in various legal fields, such as unequal access to safe housing, employment discrimination, and wrongful denial of public benefits. The staff attorney will center community and co-create solutions providing community legal education and support to community-led advocacy efforts. In strategic impact cases, the staff attorney will plan, develop, file, or defend law suits whose outcome impact more than one individual and that focus on changing laws or protecting the rights of those impacted. In addition to providing direct representation to clients or client groups, the attorney will also utilize all other available advocacy tools to effectively achieve the client's desired goals - from litigation, coalition collaboration, white paper drafting, participation in the rulemaking process, media campaigns, among others. This includes performing assessments, service plan development and coordinating housing activity with families. The CMHS will also coordinate service provisions with the Family Care Coordination Program. Responsible for supporting and facilitating families' ability to participate in an active housing search. The CMHS will coordinate service delivery to families through a large network of area service providers to help them secure permanent housing. They will also conduct housing groups and collaborate with the Employment Specialists to assist families in increasing their income. The CMHS is responsible for assisting families/singles who are referred through Coordinated Entry to secure permanent supportive housing units and provide support services to maintain housing, increase income and work toward self-sufficiency. The CMHS performs an assessment of the client's service needs as they relate to the problem of homelessness. In consultation with the family members, the CMHS formalizes and develops a Service Plan. These issues may include areas of finance management, referrals for substance abuse, mental health counseling, parent support assistance, employment assistance, etc. The CMHS is also responsible for completing all documentation required by HUD, including unit inspections. Qualifications Minimum Requirements * Associate’s degree in Health Education, Human Services, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred). * At least 1 year of professional experience working with TGNCNB, WSW, and/or YMSM communities. * At least 1 year of experience in HIV prevention, sexual health education, or community outreach. * Demonstrated cultural competency and comfort engaging LGBTQ+ communities in diverse public settings. * Flexible schedule, with availability for evenings and weekends. * Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation. Preferred * Bilingual (Spanish/English). * Certified in HIV/HCV testing or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire. * Experience engaging communities in nightlife, campus, or grassroots settings. Key Skills & Attributes * Deep understanding of health equity, intersectionality, and LGBTQ+ cultural dynamics. * Ability to build trust and rapport with historically marginalized communities. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Comfortable working in both structured settings and nontraditional venues. * Proficient in data entry, reporting, and digital outreach platforms.
