ABOUT THE CONSTITUENT & COMMUNITY SERVICES (CCS) DEPARTMENT The CCS department provides a range of supportive services that assist older adults in aging in place and connecting to programs and resources that help them thrive and build vital social connections. The department provides support to a broad spectrum of older adults who range in age from 60 to over 100 and vary in physical mobility from highly active in the community to predominantly home-based. To support our social work model of service delivery, staff in CCS are consulted by colleagues throughout the agency as constituent needs arise. The robust CCS portfolio includes Case Assistance, Information & Referral, Kosher Meals at Home, Friendly Visiting, Home Assessments, and Synagogue Partnerships. THE OPPORTUNITY DOROTs Synagogue Partnership Program currently supports nine synagogues in Manhattan, representing the full range of denominations within the Jewish community. The SPP team enhances synagogues relationships with their older congregants by offering unique expertise on the evolving needs of older adults and providing social work support to clergy, staff, lay leaders, older adults, and caregivers. POSITION DESCRIPTION The Social Worker,Synagogue Partnership serves as a vital link between the Jewish community and DOROT, ensuring that synagogues and older adult congregants have access to and benefit from DOROTs expertise, social work model, and programming. They will have the exciting opportunity to help DOROT deepen existing relationships and foster partnerships with new synagogues. The ideal candidate is a resourceful, responsive, and creative team member who has strong individual and group clinical skills; the ability to gain the trust and cooperation of synagogue staff, lay leaders, and members of each congregation; and confidence to take the initiative in community building efforts. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as a liaison to 4-7 synagogue partners, working in collaboration with the Manager of Synagogue Partnership Program on program opportunities, strategic growth, and individual case interventions., • Work with rabbis, synagogue staff, and lay leaders on issues related to older adults and caregivers., • Conduct outreach and home visits to older adults and caregivers and provide support to members of each synagogue based on their unique ends. This includes but is not limited to: completing comprehensive psycho-social assessments and providing case assistance, supportive counseling, and information and referrals to DOROT programs and other community services., • Lead or co-lead support groups on issues of social isolation, bereavement, caregiving, and other relevant topics., • Support lay leaders in Bikkur Cholim committees at the synagogues the Outreach Social Worker serves., • Advise synagogue staff regarding inclusion of older adult congregants in synagogue life., • Assist with other synagogue efforts related to older adults and caregivers, including technical assistance to synagogues interested in implementing DOROTs intergenerational or other programs, • Support the Manager of Synagogue Partnership Program in deepening existing relationships and expanding DOROTs partnership model:, • Promote DOROT awareness within existing synagogue partner congregations;, • Present to synagogue communities on issues of aging and social isolation and speak at synagogue events; and, • Assist with writing, developing and distributing materials to promote the SPP., • Carry a caseload of Friendly Visiting matches between older adult synagogue congregants and volunteer friendly visitors., • Stay up to date on relevant issues that relate to aging in the community., • Represent DOROT at community outreach events, networking opportunities, and conferences., • Collaborate with peers and other departments to enhance the agencys overall goals and impact:, • With Community Outreach and Marketing and Communication for ongoing promotion and recruitment of older adults and volunteers., • With Volunteer Services and Intergenerational Engagement departments to identify older adults for certain program opportunities., • With Advancement, to identify appropriate candidates for media/promotional opportunities and assist constituents within the caseload., • Collect, track and maintain case assessment and related client interactions using DOROTs online database (Salesforce); this includes routine data entry and timely case note documentation., • Information & Referral helpline coverage, as needed., • Special projects and other duties as assigned. They advocate for improved access to healthcare for immigrant and low income people, and provide health services to community members. The health department combines one-on-one assistance, helping individuals and families navigate the health system and apply for health insurance coverage, programs, and SNAP. They run 2 community food pantries in Brooklyn and Queens. They have a robust health promotore program, and conduct outreach and education to the community and connect them to resources and information. Our Community Health Worker home visiting programs assist patients in reaching their health goals. The health team also leads campaigns at the city and state level to increase access to care and coverage for all regardless of immigration status in New York. Current Opening: The Food Pantry Associate is a part time position based in Queens and works 30 hours weekly. They manage logistics and operations for the Brooklyn and Queens food pantries while abiding by all health and safety regulations. Each food pantry location distributes food once a week and serves on average 500 households per week across both sites. The Food Pantry Associate completes all pantry food orders, schedules deliveries, manages distribution, and is responsible for reporting, data entry and volunteer recruitment and coordination. They ensure pantry distribution is well organized, efficient and fosters a respectful environment. Additionally, they connect clients and community members to all MRNY services, events, and campaigns and the MRNY mission to create collective community power. This is a bargaining unit position. Key Responsibilities but not limited to: • Manage, coordinate and oversee the day to day food operations of the Brooklyn and Queens pantry., • Place food orders and coordinate deliveries for both the Brooklyn and Queens pantries using multiple platforms, such as, DRISCOL and Foodbank NYC, among others., • Responsible for opening the office on pantry delivery and distribution days to set up the pantry and receive volunteers. Cleaning and organizing the office and pantry space afterwards. The delivery day schedule starts at 8AM and the distribution day schedule starts at 6AM., • Receive and accept order shipments upon arrival, check for contaminated or spoiled foods, and organize and label boxes. Inspect, organize, and maintain food storage areas in compliance with Local, State and Federal health, safety and sanitation requirements and regulations., • Lift and transport boxes of food weighing 25lbs or more throughout the day, including ascending and descending stairs, and operate equipment such as hand trucks and conveyor belts to support food distribution., • Greet participants on distribution days, including scheduling appointments and providing a welcoming environment; address and resolve any issues or concerns that arise with participants and volunteers to ensure smooth and respectful delivery and distribution operations., • Collaborate with other departments’ staff to distribute emergency food bags and coordinate the referral of participants to the pantry, ensuring timely support., • Manage the food pantry ring central call line extension accepting new participants for pantry distribution, accordingly., • Work closely with and support Administrative staff to coordinate space, supplies and other logistical needs., • Recruit and coordinate pantry volunteers, at both sites, to assist with deliveries and distribution. Provide guidance, training, and assign roles to pantry volunteers on daily responsibilities., • Check in and register volunteers and participants, • Collaborate with Human Resources in the coordination of mandatory volunteer trainings and onboarding process to ensure compliance., • Enter and maintain accurate monthly data, including reporting through the Feed NYC system and completing other data entry tasks in a timely manner., • Maintain our food pantry resource guides updated, • Maintain updated certifications: Food Safety certification and Food Protection certification, • Participate in orgwide trainings, activities, and actions.
