American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 05/26/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: May 26, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Acute care hospital ICU setting covering both the ICU and ICU-CV Recovery units, • 24-bed unit with capacity to expand to 32 beds, • Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, AMI, ARDS, GI bleed, renal failure (CRRT), CABG (fresh hearts), TAVR, Impella, vascular surgeries, neuro surgeries, ischemic strokes (TNK & thrombectomies), SAH (EVD/ICP monitoring), • Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity, • Spacelabs telemetry monitoring in use with 24/7 monitor techs; nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting their own tele strips, • Ventilators on unit, maintained by Respiratory Therapy (RT available 24/7), • Cerner EMR — experience required, • All cardiac and vasoactive drips, conscious sedation, and related medications administered on this unit, • 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend (or equivalent of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule), • Travelers are first to float to MedSurg/Tele units (4E, 4W, 5E, 5W, and 6E)Requirements, • Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted, • Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required, • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted, • Experience with Cerner EMR required, • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position, • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire, • A copy of your driver's license is required for considerationAdditional Information, • Intensivist is on the unit from 7a–5p and available on-call after hours, • Charge nurses rarely take patients; a Free Resource Nurse may take patients if staffing needs require; charge nurse responds to all rapid responses, • No nurse aides on unit, • Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the ICU unit plus orientation to East and West tower floors for floating purposes, • EKG interpretation testing is assigned during orientation; critical care RNs will also complete additional testing related to the STEMI and Procedural Sedation curricula, • 24/7 pharmacy in the hospital; a dedicated pharmacist is on the unit 12 hrs/day Mon–Fri and 6 hrs on weekends; Omnicell also available, • No IV team on this unit, • Experience with IABP, CRRT, or ICP monitoring is not required but is a plus, • Scrub color is navy blue; scrub jackets and undershirts must also be navy, white, or black With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
