Uses products as needed., • Split samples between departments, • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and reliability work., • Ensure adherence to the daily work schedule., • Make suggestions and recommendations regarding product/specs. that would aid in logging, including communication with customers., • Perform clerical review to ensure accuracy., • Ensure all samples are labeled correctly and stored at the appropriate temperatures until testing can occur., • Ensure the sample receiving/splitting room is cleaned and maintained., • Participate in special projects as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor., • Keep the Manager/Supervisor informed of issues or problems within the department., • Interact with clients, suppliers and vendors as required., • Learn new techniques and technologies and trains others as appropriate., • Work effectively with other departments., • Responsible for the execution of all ISO and QC requirements., • Stock/order supplies as needed (labels, boxes etc.), • Assist with sample retain and retrieval, • Assists with purchasing and inventory, • Assist in media prep, • Assist in cleaning of laboratory glassware, • Assist in general laboratory housekeeping tasks, • Other duties as required. Direct Clinical Care: (80%)•Responsible for assessing, planning and administering health care which is individualized to the patient and consistent with the policies and protocols of PPFA and PPGNY.•Secures a complete health history and performs physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive health care, and other types of more specialized reproductive care including abortion care, and transgender hormone therapy.•Provides medications and contraceptive devices as needed.•Monitors medical aspects of all medical services offered at the health center, acting as a resource to center staff and patients regarding medical concerns.•Performs, orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests.•Provides education and appropriate management for women and men in need of reproductive related services, including fertility control, infertility, and sexually transmitted infections.•Assesses and manages gynecological conditions and provides treatment consistent with PPGNY protocols, policies, and procedures.•Ensures appropriate medical follow-up on all patient testing and/or treatment, including direct patient contacts and laboratory test review.•Create & maintain medical documentation in an EHR system in compliance with EHR policies and procedures.•Provides postpartum care in selected settings within an interdisciplinary team framework with appropriate pre-service and in-service education.•Seeks consultations as necessary from Medical Director or designee.•Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team and makes referrals to medical and community resources as indicated. Grossing technician: Histotechnicians/Grossing technicians are an essential part of the team of laboratory health care professionals. They perform testing and prepare body fluids and tissues that are critical to the diagnostic process in determining health and disease. Shift: 10:00 PM - 4:30 AM Responsibilities Include: • Receives specimens in the grossing laboratory, • Enters patient information into the laboratory information system, verifying identification, • Labels cassettes with accession/laboratory numbers, • Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures, such as preventive maintenance and temperature checks, • Maintains a clean and well-organized work area, • Performs various clerical duties, • Always maintains strict confidentiality and protects patient information, • Ensures specimen integrity upon receipt and throughout the entire macroscopic examination process, • Performs routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to delineation of privileges, policies, and procedures, • Sets up necessary equipment, supplies, and specimens for macroscopic examination, • Describes gross anatomic features of biopsies or routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens without selective sampling, • Loads prepared cassettes into a tissue processor and starts the processor, • Maintains cleanliness of the anatomic pathology suite, • Operates and cleans laboratory equipment, instruments, and workstations, • Maintains wet tissue storage, • Stores, rotates, and disposes of all wet tissues in accordance with departmental procedures, • Disinfects and maintains specimen storage cabinets, • Properly label, store, handle, and dispose of reagents and hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations; this may include recycling or reprocessing of reagents used in the department including neutralizing formalin before disposal, • Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed, • Adhere to CAP, CLIA, state regulations, HIPAA, safety, and OSHA regulations Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution or equivalent required. Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Technician, Histotechnician, Pathologists Assistant or equivalent required. Minimum of 2 - 5 years’ work experience preferred. Microtomy experience a plus. ASCP certification preferred.
