Job Description The Apprentice Teacher position provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals with limited or no teaching experience to explore the field of education and to gain hands-on practice and the training necessary to become a successful full-time classroom teacher. Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction and education reform from experienced teachers and school leaders at a leading charter management organization. Apprentice Teachers observe and learn from Master Teachers, co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Depending on school needs and candidate background, Apprentice Teachers may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load. Apprentice Teachers will also assist with a variety of work inside and outside of the classroom, including teaching Enrichment classes, organizing student events, and developing mentoring relationships with students. Uncommon Schools Principal Fellows are strategically trained and developed using best-in-class practices with the goal of stepping into an Uncommon Principal role upon completion of the Fellowship, in which they will co-lead a school alongside an Uncommon Director of Operations. This Principal Fellow and eventual Principal is a full-time employee, hired, supported, and evaluated by the Regional Superintendent of Instruction and the Senior Director of School Support. The fellowship is based on a foundation of core elements aligned to the competencies of Uncommon Principals. Each element is designed to build Principal Fellows’ capacity towards becoming effective instructional school leaders: Feedback and Assessment Feedback, especially individualized feedback, is the main tool that will support the Principal Fellow’s growth as a leader and is the main reason our schools go from good to great. Principal Fellows will receive feedback formally and informally throughout the Fellowship during their time in schools, professional development, and in cross-regional Fellow cohort gatherings. School Immersion By integrating fully into the day-to-day activities of an Uncommon school, Principal Fellows will gain exposure to situations they may face as a school leader and be challenged to manage the complexity of scenarios that occur at a school. Job Description The Uncommon Accounting team is based in New York City and provides support to 2,600 staff members across 52 schools and the Home Office. The organization employs two Director of Accounting positions who report to the Controller and work in close collaboration with each other, regional and school leaders, as well as other Home Office leaders. Areas of responsibility include school, Home Office, and real estate accounting across multiple states with different compliance requirements. Responsibilities are distributed between the two Director positions depending on workload, skillset, and expertise. The Director of Accounting should have a growth mindset, be a strong and detail-oriented manager, and be a hands-on, hardworking team player. The ideal candidate possesses significant leadership experience as well as a solid operational and technical accounting background. Duties & Responsibilities Accounting Operations Oversight and Management • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP and/or GASB accrual accounting standards and regulatory requirements., • Develop and implement internal control systems and assist in developing processes for identifying and reporting any gaps in controls and recommending improvements., • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; c. The Director of Operations Fellowship is a year-long, full-time program that prepares you to become a Director of Operations (DOO) of an Uncommon school. As DOO, you co-lead alongside a Principal, partnering to ensure your students receive an exemplary education. The Fellowship is based on a foundation of four core elements that are aligned to the competencies of Uncommon leaders. Each element is designed to build Fellows’ capacity towards becoming effective Directors of Operations. These include Fellowship Deliverables and School Immersion; Evaluation and Feedback; Operations Leadership Meetings, and Professional Development. The DOO Fellowship typically lasts one year; however, flexibility is key as the fellowship can range from a couple of weeks (due to a mid-year transition) to more than a year (if an opening is unavailable [more common in smaller regions] or if the Fellow would benefit from additional time to develop). Fellows should expect to work in multiple locations and gradespans within the region. Fellow placement is based on the region’s needs as well as Fellows’ growth areas and matching them with host DOOs to best support their development. Fellowship Deliverables and School Immersion Fellows are placed at an existing Uncommon school and serve as full-time members of the school's operations team. They engage in operations work at their host school, tackle Uncommon-wide operations projects, and conduct observations and analysis of operational systems. Fellows are responsible for completing a variety of pre-determined deliverables designed to provide active learning that supports the development of their leadership. Evaluation and Feedback Fellows receive coaching and feedback from their Regional Superintendent of Operations and host DOO. This support is rooted in their Individualized Development Plans, which are customized around their strengths and areas of growth. Operations Leadership Meetings Fellows meet periodically with current DOOs, other Fellows in their region, and Fellows across all of Uncommon to share and problem solve around current cross-organization operational challenges and to build their network of current leaders. Professional Development Starting in the summer, Fellows engage in professional development focusing on Cultural Leadership, Management, and Operational Leadership. Each session will be led by our experienced group of Regional Superintendents of Instruction, Home Office teams, and a select group of external partners. About the Role To achieve its goal of serving 80,000–100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Regional Success, who will design and deliver strategic learning and enablement experiences that empower regional team members to succeed in their work with Fellows and partners. This role leads work across central and regional workstreams that impact the entire organization, ensuring that all deliverables and outcomes are standalone outputs that directly deliver to organizational goals. Reporting to the Senior Director of Regional Success, you will have strategic ownership of Braven’s Regional Success enablement program—equipping diverse regional roles, from Executive Directors to Operations Coordinators, with the tools, insights, and skills to excel. Your scope will include designing best-in-class hiring resources, leading comprehensive onboarding, serving as a Learning Management System administrator, defining and tracking enablement program KPIs, and delivering end-to-end training experiences that align with every stage of the course delivery journey. As part of the Regional Success team, you will play a critical role in Braven’s internal service engine: a function dedicated to removing barriers, codifying best practices, and fostering the conditions necessary for regions to operate with excellence. By codifying and amplifying effective practices across sites, you will enable Braven to scale impact nationally while remaining responsive to local needs. This role is on the Regional Success team and reports directly to the Senior Director, Regional Success. What You’ll Do Learning Strategy & Enablement (35%) • Engage leaders in bidirectional consultation: communicate your strategic vision for enablement while soliciting their input and recommendations, ensuring that learning plans are both aligned to Braven’s organizational goals and responsive to staff development needs., • Skillfully set strategy for projects or initiatives and lead projects or initiatives from end-to-end, overseeing the design, development, and execution of the comprehensive Learning and Design (L&D)experience for all regional roles., • Conduct initial and ongoing needs assessments and skills gap analyses to recommend targeted interventions., • Responsible for identifying improvements in and meaningfully influencing strategic direction for targeted implementation support for new regions during critical start-up and launch phases to ensure program fidelity and team readiness., • Create critical new processes and blended learning programs (workshops, eLearning, on-demand resources, simulations, assessments) for: 1) Annual all-regions Bootcamp, 2) Async fundamental courses, 3) End-to-end training arcs to support individual roles, 4) Regional Business Unit role alignment, job descriptions, and goal codification., • Maintain high-quality hiring and recruitment materials for regional roles to ensure consistent messaging and attract top talent. The salary ranges, by geographic market, for this role are set forth $83,600-$104,400 in Chicago, and $92,000-$114,900 in Newark.
