Job DescriptionInsurance Coverage Attorney Insurance Coverage Attorney Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Insurance Coverage Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide expert counsel and representation on insurance coverage issues for insurers, policyholders, and corporate clients. This role focuses on evaluating coverage exposure, drafting coverage opinions, handling coverage litigation and declaratory judgment actions, advising on claim handling and reservation of rights issues, and supporting transactional due diligence related to insurance matters. Strong analytical, litigation, and client-facing skills are essential. Key Responsibilities • Analyze insurance policies and applicable law to determine coverage, exclusions, and defenses across first-party and third-party claims., • Prepare clear, well-reasoned written coverage opinions and reservation of rights letters for insurers and policyholders., • Handle coverage litigation, including filing and defending declaratory judgment actions, motion practice, briefing, and trial preparation., • Draft and respond to pleadings, discovery requests, and participate in depositions and trial support., • Advise on claim handling, file management, coverage allocations, indemnity and hold harmless obligations, and subrogation strategies., • Assess extra-contractual exposure and bad faith risks; develop strategies for defense or prosecution of extracontractual claims., • Counsel clients on a broad range of coverage lines including Commercial General Liability, Property & Casualty, Cyber Liability, Directors & Officers, Professional Liability (E&O/Malpractice), Workers Compensation, Excess & Umbrella, and Reinsurance-related issues., • Support M&A and transactional due diligence with respect to insurance assets/liabilities and policy endorsements; assist in policy drafting and endorsement review., • Manage eDiscovery and document review activities; coordinate with vendors and leverage tools such as Relativity, PACER, and LexisNexis or Westlaw for legal research., • Represent clients in alternative dispute resolution including mediation and arbitration, and coordinate settlement strategies., • Ensure compliance with state insurance codes and regulatory requirements; advise on ERISA and employee benefits issues when applicable., • Maintain matter budgets and timelines, supervise junior attorneys and paralegals, and communicate case strategy and status to clients and stakeholders.Qualifications, • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar admission in applicable jurisdiction(s)., • Minimum 3-5 years of experience handling insurance coverage matters, with demonstrable litigation and coverage-opinion experience., • Proven experience in Coverage Opinions, Policy Interpretation, and Insurance Law across Commercial General Liability, Property & Casualty, Cyber Liability, Directors & Officers (D&O), Professional Liability (E&O/Malpractice), Excess & Umbrella Coverage, Reinsurance, and Workers Compensation., • Demonstrated experience with Bad Faith Defense & Prosecution, Declaratory Judgment Actions, Coverage Litigation, Motion Practice & Briefing, Pleadings, Trial Preparation and Depositions., • Experience with Reservation of Rights drafting, Indemnity & Hold Harmless Analysis, Claim Handling & File Management, Subrogation, and Extra-Contractual Exposure Analysis., • Familiarity with Contractual Liability, Policy Drafting & Endorsements, Regulatory Compliance with State Insurance Codes, and ERISA & Employee Benefits where applicable., • Strong eDiscovery and document review skills; experience with Relativity, PACER, LexisNexis and/or Westlaw, and Case/Matter Management software., • Skilled in mediation and arbitration advocacy, settlement negotiation, and collaborating with claims professionals and outside counsel., • Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)., • Experience supporting Due Diligence for M&A and transactional matters involving insurance considerations is a plus., • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters, mentor junior staff, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. - For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
