Job Description Horizon Hearts, Inc. is seeking a professional Cook to handle the daily operations of food preparation. The Cook’s responsibilities include preparing food independently and ensuring cleanliness of the kitchen, cookware, dishes and pantry at the end of each day. Qualifications: · High school diploma or GED; trade school and three years of experience in food handling or food service. · Experience with food safety and preparing hearty food options. · Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication/organizational skills. · Current food handler or food protection certification required. · First Aid and CPR certification required. Key Responsibilities: 1. Complete Shopping Inventory Log on a bi-weekly basis., 2. Maintain and update Menu Log with hearty options., 3. Monitor product dates using the FIFO (first in, first out) method., 4. Set up stock stations with necessary supplies., 5. Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat or preparing sauces)., 6. Cook items on the menu independently and, if applicable, with kitchen staff., 7. Monitor food preparation for safety and never leave food unattended when cooking., 8. Clean up station and properly store leftover food., 9. Stock inventory appropriately., 10. Ensure food is of high quality and served in a timely fashion., 11. Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards., 12. Clean and maintain an organized work area, including weekly cleaning of all refrigerators (basement, common area, deep freezer and kitchen), cleaning spills and keeping refrigerators organized., 13. Update and display signs in designated eating areas, such as First Aid Choking posters, Wash Hands signs by sinks, and No Smoking signs throughout the facility., 14. Maintain a positive and professional approach with all employees and clients. Physical Requirements: · Ability to climb stairs repeatedly. · Ability to lift 25 lbs. · Ability to perform repetitive motions, such as those required in cleaning.
