Fitness Program, • Legal Assistance through ARAG, • Optum Financial Service through ConnectYourCare ▪ Conducts direct street outreach to individuals in need of addictions medication services. ▪ Establishes a respectful, trusting relationship with program participants. ▪ Assists participants to identify and build on their strengths and resiliencies. ▪ Assists participants in identifying basic needs. ▪ Provides referrals for medication assisted treatment of substance use disorders. ▪ Provides guidance and resources to help participants access healthcare, behavioral healthcare, public assistance, housing, nutritional assistance and health insurance. ▪ Provide training to program participants and distributes medication for opioid overdose reversal. ▪ Distributes harm reduction supplies, including: wound care kits, safer sex kits, sharps disposal and medication disposal kits, substance supply test kits for fentanyl and other synthetic drugs. ▪ Escorts participants to clinic for assessment and same day medication initiation. ▪ Assists patients with medication access. ▪ Facilitates warm hand-offs with network service providers. ▪ Acts as advocate on behalf of program participants with professional staff and network service providers. ▪ Participates in team meetings and service planning conferences. ▪ Documents delivery of services in case record. ▪ Participates in in-service training according to program requirements. Qualifications for Position ▪ New York State Certified Recovery Peer Advocate or Provisional CRPA preferred. ▪ CARC preferred. ▪ Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder. ▪ 2 years of direct care work experience with individuals at risk for, or with a substance use disorder. Skills and Knowledge Required ▪ Demonstrates effective communication skills; recognizes and uses person-centered language. ▪ Recognizes that there are multiple pathways to recovery/wellness. ▪ Practices a strengths-based approach to recovery/wellness. ▪ Proficient with Microsoft Office applications ▪ Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred ▪ Ability to engage active substance users and their families Amount of travel and any other special conditions or requirements Frequent local travel required Odyssey House is an equal opportunity employer maintaining a non-discriminatory policy on hiring of its personnel. Job Description Position: Youth and Family Peer Advocate Program/Department: Youth and Family Peer Advocate Workforce Expansion Program Reports to: Program Coordinator Work Location: 980 Halsey Street, Brooklyn, New York Hours: Part Time 20 to 25 hours per week, must be available to work on Saturdays Salary Range : $18.00 - $18.00 per hour Contract is scheduled to run through June 30, 2026 Founded in 1866, Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) is one of New York City’s largest and oldest poverty-fighting nonprofits. We partner with people of all ages to overcome obstacles on their paths to self-determination, through our afterschool, food, housing, literacy, ESOL, psychiatric rehabilitation, work readiness, and workforce development programs across more than 25 sites in Brooklyn. BCS serves approximately 20,000 individuals a year. The Youth Peer Advocate program provides training to youth and families to develop skills and strategies to empower and support other young people and families by helping participants to obtain the YPA or PEP credential. The core required training for this is either the Youth Peer Advocate (YPA) training or Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) training, in addition to a wide range of other training. POSITION SUMMARY: Peer Specialists use their “lived experience” to promote resiliency, recovery, wellness, and self-efficacy, and support the practice of youth-guided and family-driven approaches. The Peer Specialist position is community-based. Services are delivered in a variety of settings that meet the needs of the program participants. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: The Peer Advocate works with the Program Coordinator in collaboration with the NYC Youth/Family Peer Advocate Training programs to introduce and motivate young adults with mental health and/or lived experience towards professional development and purpose. * Establish structured, supportive relationships with youth and family peer advocate trainees. * Build trusting supportive relationship with Peer trainees, offering hope and motivation towards goal setting and professional development * Meet participants in the office, or in the community to educate around YPA or PEP training Programs, while promoting self-efficacy and personal development * With the program coordinator develop community resources and services * Connect participants to community resources and services; * Provide mutual support, hope, reassurance and advocacy which includes sharing one’s own “personal recovery/resiliency story” as appropriate. * Co-facilitate presentations on the Youth/Family Peer Advocate Training Program as needed and serve as an advocate and mentor. * Assist in navigating the Youth and Family Peer training service system, including coaching, encouragement, bridging gaps, and support around developing skills to independently navigate services. * Use electronic database, document demographic data on all individuals seen, track all services provided and monitor progress towards identified goals associated with training program * Other duties as assigned Qualifications * High school or equivalent (Required) * NYS Peer Specialist Certification * Effective oral /written/interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work independently are required * Must undergo pre-employment screenings such as the Criminal Background Check required by OMH BCS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Job DescriptionPosition Summary Hamilton-Madison House seeks a full-time Certified Recovery Peer Advocate or provisional (CRPA/CRPA-P) who will provide peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to clients with substance use disorder problems and/or mental illness. Service provision will focus on working with clients to enhance their recovery. Service is provided to individuals or groups. The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate’s role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The CRPA will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The CRPA/CRPA-P must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. Responsibilities: • Provide individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching and support, • Engaging with an individual to consider entering treatment, • Engaging a client to attend treatment or other healthcare services, • Engaging an individual in continuing care services post-discharge, • Assist in developing formal and informal community supports, • Assist clients served in increasing social support networks of family members and/or significant others, • Work in cooperation with other providers, family members or significant others involved in the client’s recovery plan, • Offer encouragement in times of crisis, • Offer modeling coping skills, • Assist clients with applying for social benefits, • Observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment both internally and externally, • Responsible for understanding client’s rights & obligation, policy and procedures, • Maintain professional standards and observe the guidelines established within the Code of Ethics and Conduct, • High School Diploma or GED, • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate Provisional (CRPA-P) or Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) or Peer Specialist and lived with addiction, • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or CRPA-Provisional certification preferred; may self-identify as a person in recovery, • Bilingual English/Asian Language or other language preferred, • Ability to work well and interact with various types of individuals, • A sound understanding of substance use disorder and/or mental health problems and treatments, • EHR documentation skills, • Past or present consumer substance use disorder services and/or mental health illness with a history of managing one’s own illness experience, • Awareness of the importance of recovery in living with an addiction and/or mental illness problem, • Past experience working directly with individuals in a service oriented field is beneficial Excellent benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 12 paid agency-wide holidays.
