Job Description Hiring a Queens Float Phlebotomist! Job Description This float phlebotomist role supports multiple patient service centers across Queens and Manhattan, performing high-volume blood draws and specimen collection in a fast-paced clinical environment. The position requires an experienced phlebotomist who is confident working independently from day one, proficient with straight needles, and able to provide clear, courteous communication to patients and colleagues. The role involves frequent travel between sites, with reimbursement for eligible travel-related expenses. Responsibilities • Perform blood draws and venipunctures independently using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety., • Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols., • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients before and during the process., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all information for accuracy prior to collection and processing., • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols., • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy., • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures in accordance with laboratory standards., • Update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems or forms., • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in the appropriate collection containers or tubes., • Follow all procedures specific to each protocol to maintain specimen integrity from collection through transport., • Package specimens securely and appropriately for transport between locations or to the testing laboratory., • Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients and staff at all patient service centers., • Minimum of 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience, including extensive hands-on venipuncture., • Minimum of 2 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting., • High proficiency and comfort using straight needles for venipuncture, with the ability to perform blood draws independently on day one., • Strong skills in specimen collection, including blood, urine, and fecal samples., • Ability to operate and use a centrifuge for specimen processing., • Accurate labeling, handling, and processing of specimens in accordance with test requirements., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks., • Reliable transportation to travel between multiple sites in Queens and Manhattan., • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients., • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality in a clinical or laboratory setting., • Experience working in multiple locations or in a float role within a healthcare or laboratory network., • Familiarity with patient service center workflows and processes., • Comfort working in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in specimen labeling, requisitions, and documentation., • Ability to adapt quickly to different site procedures, teams, and patient populations. This is a float position covering various patient service centers across Queens and Manhattan, including locations from Far Rockaway and Arverne in Queens to multiple sites in Manhattan. The work environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, with frequent direct patient contact for blood draws and specimen collection. The schedule typically falls between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on the site, with most locations opening between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. and occasional coverage needed until 6:00–7:00 p.m., including rotating Saturdays. The phlebotomist travels between sites during the workday, and travel time between locations is paid. Mileage beyond 30 miles traveled daily, as well as tolls and parking between patient service centers, is reimbursed in accordance with policy. The role involves working with standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment such as straight needles, butterfly needles, specimen tubes, and centrifuges in a professional clinical setting.H Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson Heights, NY.
