POSITION OVERVIEW The Medical Director engages in the professional, organizational, and administrative activities of the provide quality care to clients based upon their medical and psycho-social needs. The Medical Director develops, implements, evaluates the medical practice delivery model in accordance with specific goals. The responsibilities of the Medical Director are to be performed on a full time basis and are designed to provide medical leadership, services, direction and coordination in the provision of medical care and physician services. The Medical Director is the liaison between administration and the medical staff. The Medical Director assumes responsibility for all applicable Federal, State and City regulations for the department. KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Meet with all scheduled patients efficiently and reviews scheduling with supervisor daily., • Participate in planning, development, and organization of medical services provided., • Develop and reviews all medical policies related to patient care., • Conduct physical examinations of patients upon their admission and thereafter on an annual, regular and on an “as-needed-basis.”, • Review the completion and appropriateness of all intake documentation, including patient health history (i.e., other medications and allergies), drug abuse history and previous treatment failures., • Review and approval of initial needs assessment and patient initial treatment plans and reviews., • Participate in preparation for regulatory agency site visits., • Anytime the program is open and a physician is not present, a physician must be available for consultation and to attend to any emergency situation., • Perform additional relevant duties as requested by supervisors/management, • Knowledge of Federal, State and City regulatory requirements and ensures all aspects of clinical care conforms to these requirements., • Order, evaluate, adjust and terminate prescription of medication dosages using sound medical, ethical and responsible discretion and meets with the patient to discuss any adjustments in medication dosage., • Review all accident/incidents related to patient care and provides input into actions necessary to resolve identified problems. The medical director will have oversight of the development and revision of medical policies and procedures and ongoing training, • Collaborative supervision with the Program Director of non-medical staff in the provision of substance use disorder services., • Supervision of medical staff in the performance of medical services., • Oversight of the development of policies and procedures to ensure the provision of routine services,, • Oversight of the establishment of policies and procedures for public health education and screening, • Assist in the development of necessary referral and linkage relationships with other institutions and agencies, • Ensure the program compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations., • Assure medical staff compliance with all regulatory and licensure guidelines., • Ensure compliance of all members of the medical staff to the rules, regulations and bylaws of the Medical Department. You will receive training in empirically supported behavior management techniques to assist children in developing positive and pro-social behaviors. Children spend 60 minutes daily in learning centers led by teachers, while the remainder of the day consists of recreationally based group activities. Aids in explaining feelings, resolving conflicts, teaching/reinforcing acceptable means of dissipating frustration, and anger., • If pets are in the home, teaches/assists with their feeding, grooming, and care., • Teaches/supervises/participates in a variety of leisure and recreational activities, crafts projects, seasonal and permanent home decoration; assists in planning, supervising and conducting holiday celebrations selected by residents and staff., • May accompany developmentally disabled individuals to dances, camping trips, swimming, horseback riding, basketball, or other sports; assists in selection and teaching of appropriate community inclusion leisure activities., • Observes and reports on behavior and specific responses to programming, medication, interpersonal relationships, etc., • Actively participates at staff meetings by communicating observations concerning progress and reaction to various therapy programs., • At meetings, may suggest alternative programs or procedures based on experience with the individual’s habilitation plan., • Records all significant behavioral responses in prescribed format., • Participates in the development of individual program and habilitation plans., • May be asked to assist in the orientation and training of other staff., • Knowledge of policies and procedures of OPWDD, as well as state and federal regulations as they apply to the care and treatment of the developmentally disabled., • Knowledge of active treatment programs as they relate to the developmentally disabled., • Currently AMAP certified or able to become certified within six months of hire., • Currently SCIP-R certified or able to become certified within six months of hire., • Currently CPR and First Aid certified or able to become certified within six months, • Direct Care experience with people with mental and/or physical disabilities. AMAP, SCIP-R, CPR/SFA certified.
