Job Description Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and Generator Outage Project Controls Manager Work Locations: Tri-State Area: New York, NY, Connecticut, CT, and New Jersey, NJ OR Houston, TX areas Compensation: $165K - $180k + bonus Travel: Up to 40%, particularly during outage season Company Information: Alpha Generation is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support capital and maintenance projects across a 24-plant, 12-GW power generation fleet in the northeastern United States. The role provides technical and project management leadership for planned and emergent work, including direct management of select projects and support of fleet-wide project execution in collaboration with plant operations, maintenance, and engineering teams. This role may support mechanical, civil, electrical, or controls-focused projects depending on the candidate’s background and business needs. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and Generator Outage Project Controls Manager with expertise to provide a key role supporting a diverse fleet of gas turbine-generators, steam turbine-generators, and ancillary equipment. The Project Controls Specialist provides comprehensive schedule, cost, and performance control for major maintenance outages on gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators across power generation facilities. This role ensures that complex outage events—such as major inspections, rotor removals, casing splits, and generator rewinds—are executed safely, efficiently, and within established budget and schedule targets. The specialist works closely with outage managers, plant leadership, OEM/contractor teams, and engineering groups to maintain full visibility into outage progress and risks. This role reports directly to the Director of Outages and Major Maintenance, supporting operations across 23 generating facilities totaling 14 GW nationwide. Key Reponsbilities Outage Planning & Scheduling • Develop and maintain detailed outage schedules for turbine and generator outages, including disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, commissioning, and return-to-service activities., • Build logic-driven schedules in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar, that reflect turbine-specific and outage related work sequences (e.g., rotor lift, diaphragm removal, bucket/blade work, generator stator inspections, BOP activities)., • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and I&C teams to define scope, durations, resource loading, and critical path activities., • Support long-term fleet outage planning and annual maintenance scheduling. Cost Control & Financial Tracking • Establish cost structures for major maintenance events, including labor, tooling, OEM services, parts, and contingency., • Track daily cost performance and update forecasts based on actual progress and scope changes., • Validate contractor time, equipment charges, and repair estimates for accuracy and alignment with contract terms., • Establish and maintain project records, including schedule, Logs, change orders, RFIs, construction documentation, • Support development of outage budgets and long-range maintenance capital plans. Performance Monitoring & Reporting • Capture real-time progress from field teams during outages and update schedule and cost models accordingly., • Produce daily and weekly outage reports summarizing schedule performance, earned value, critical path shifts, and emerging risks., • Provide clear, data-driven insights to outage managers and plant leadership to support rapid decision-making., • Maintain dashboards and KPIs for fleet-level visibility across multiple outage sites., • Hands on participation in fleet-wide outage management processes, ensuring best practices in scope, schedule, and cost control., • Participate in post-outage reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement revised best practices for future outages. Risk, Change, and Scope Management • Identify schedule and cost risks associated with turbine/generator inspections, repair findings, vendor delays, or emergent work., • Manage change control processes, ensuring impacts to scope, schedule, and cost are documented and approved., • Maintain accurate outage documentation, including repair findings, lessons learned, and historical performance data., • Ensure OEMs adhere to Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs) requirements. Field Support & Coordination • Champion safety by ensuring equipment condition and operation meet industry and company standards., • Work onsite during major outages to support daily schedule updates, progress validation, and coordination between internal teams and contractors., • Participate in daily outage meetings, providing actionable insights on schedule adherence and cost impacts., • Support alignment between plant operations, maintenance, engineering, and OEM field service teams., • Represent the company professionally in all internal and external engagements. Qualifications Required • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or other B.S. Engineering Degree from an accredited institution., • 5+ years of experience in the power generation industry, with at least 2 years hands on outage experience., • Experience in project controls within power generation industry., • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar and strong understanding of logic-based scheduling., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint and Excel., • Knowledge of outage execution processes for gas turbines, steam turbines, and/or generators and associated plant equipment., • Strong analytical skills with experience in cost tracking, forecasting, and earned value management., • Ability to work onsite during outages, including extended hours and shift work as required., • Exceptional project and process management skills., • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities., • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities under time constraints. Preferred • Experience supporting major turbine inspections (e.g., CI, HGP, MI, Major Steam, Generator Major)., • Familiarity with OEM processes (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Westinghouse, Alstom, etc.)., • Experience with CMMS systems such as Infor EAM, SAP, Maximo, or similar., • Understanding of gas and steam turbine systems, generators, and auxiliary equipment., • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, ANSI, IEEE, OSHA).
