Seeking to reduce crime and incarceration, and increase public trust in justice, the Midtown Community Justice Center works with neighborhood stakeholders to improve Midtown Manhattan, and to serve the vibrant Midtown community, specifically those in need of services. The Justice Center’s court responds creatively to low-level offending, seeking sentences that are restorative to the defendant and community. In 2023, Midtown Community Justice Center celebrated 30 years of operation and was renamed to Midtown Community Justice Center to reflect the work we do in the community. The work has continued to move upstream and beyond the walls of our physical space through expanded diversion initiatives, street outreach, and community engagement. Midtown Community Justice Center offers a diversion program that provides people who are arrested an off-ramp from criminal prosecution: Project Reset. The Center for Justice Innovation operates Project Reset, New York City's pre-arraignment diversion program, in all five boroughs and the Midtown Community Justice Center operates the program in Manhattan. In collaboration with the District Attorney’s Offices, the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, the defense bar and the New York Police Department, Project Reset seeks to create a proportionate response to low-level crime outside of the traditional criminal justice process. Project Reset-eligible community members receive the option to participate in a one session program in advance of their court date. Upon completion of the session, the District Attorney’s Office will decline to prosecute the case. The Midtown Community Justice Center also offers Rapid Reset, which offers the same diversion opportunity to Project Reset-eligible people who show up to court. Midtown Community Justice Center is seeking a Project Reset Social Worker. Reporting to the Project Reset Program Coordinator, the Social Worker will facilitate psychoeducational group-based curricula and provide individual counseling and case management to Project Reset and Rapid Reset participants. When appropriate, the Social Worker will work with clients on a voluntary basis and make referrals to additional services. The Social Worker will also provide clinical support to direct service staff on the Project Reset team and collaborate with Midtown's Clinical Director to ensure quality clinical care through Project Reset. The Social Worker may also be called upon to provide general support to other clinical programs at Midtown Community Justice Center, as needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Responsible for conducting and documenting psychological evaluations for clients living in the Program to assess stability and obtain documentation for supportive, and/or permanent housing applications., • Provides comprehensive trauma-informed individual/group counseling services with trauma and strengths-based perspectives to help clients process, and develop adequate coping skills., • Reviews case file documentation to ensure adherence to National Association of Social Work standards and guidelines, ensuring quality, appropriateness and compliance with NYS regulations in clinical assessments such as biopsychosocial and psychiatric evaluations completed on-site., • Directly provides psychological evaluations of clients living in the program to determine stability and to maintain all required permanent housing application documentation., • Provides safety planning, crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, and referrals to other related services as needed, • Participate and Represents Midway Living at community events and on committees, coalitions, working groups, and task forces., • License or limited permit required to provide therapy/counseling, • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, • Excellent interpersonal skills, be assertive and well organized, • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, including working collaboratively with professionals across disciplines, (e.g. domestic violence advocates, housing specialists, attorneys, police officers, government officials, workforce development professionals, and other community-based agency staff)., • Able to develop a treatment plan, • Knowledge of crisis intervention A master’s degree in social work required. Alternatively, to meet the professional education requirement for licensure as an LMSW, you must present satisfactory evidence of having received master's degree in social work, or its equivalent, through completion of a satisfactory graduate program in social work, which includes two years of full-time study (at least 60 semester hours, or the equivalent). No more than half of the total hours for the program may be advanced standing credit granted for social work study at the baccalaureate level. The graduate program must include curricular content in the following areas: • social work values and ethics;, • diversity, social justice, and at-risk populations;, • human behavior in the social environment;, • social welfare policy and service delivery systems;, • foundation and advanced social work practice;, • social work practice evaluation and research; A field practicum of at least 900 clock hours in social work integrated with the prescribed curricular content; and clinical coursework of at least12 semester hours that prepares the individual to practice as an LMSW. The courses must include content that emphasizes the person-in-environment perspective and knowledge and skills in the following areas:, • diagnosis and assessment in clinical social work practice;, • At least one year's clinical social work experience preferred., • Excellent writing skills required., • Knowledge of the following service areas is required: homeless-related issues, criminal justice, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse., • Experience with assessing client’s mental health, utilizing the DSM 5 for diagnosis and strong clinical skills required., • Strong interpersonal, managerial and administrative skills required., • Advocate on behalf of clients with city and state agencies and institutions on issues that are negatively affecting the clients., • Computer proficiency required, including, but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher., • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Position Summary: The Director of Mental Health will serve as the primary liaison between the agency and other agencies in the mental health continuum (e.g., state hospital, community case management, adult foster care homes, etc.). Supervisory Responsibilities: • Directs the day-to-day operations of the program and implements programmatic and administrative policies and procedures to attain program goals and objectives., • Supervises the service staff, evaluates employee performance, and makes recommendations for human resources actions to the mental health vice president., • Develops and implements programmatic and administrative policies and procedures to attain program goals and objectives., • Oversees quality assurance in the program's service delivery including clinical care and documentation., • Supervises a clinical care manager, social workers, and MSW interns., • Oversees the program's productivity to meet established standards and to ensure continuity of care in the provision of comprehensive services., • Coordinates communication with other service components of the agency and outside agencies involved with agency clients., • Adheres to the agency's policies and procedures., • Serves on agency committees, working groups, and other bodies as assigned., • Clinical expertise in crisis intervention, skill in working with the mentally ill population, and with individuals undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress; skill in diagnosis and assessment., • Ability to work as part of a comprehensive community mental health team and to represent the agency in the community., • Skills in supervising, evaluating, and disciplining staff of professionals and paraprofessionals., • Familiarity with community support systems, health care and human service resources, court and police activities, etc., • Good organizational skills and administrative abilities., • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work including weekends., • Knowledge of and the ability to adhere to a professional code of ethics., • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) required., • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), preferred., • Appropriate professional registration/certification by state/national authority required., • At least five years of professional experience in the mental health or human services fields required with at least three years at the supervisory level preferred., • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer., • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
