Responsibilities include: • Developing and implementing a student engagement and support strategy to create and facilitate an environment in which students can thrive and succeed while in law school, preparing for post-graduate success., • Leading institutional response to student crises., • Managing the Student Affairs department, guiding a team of professionals in overseeing a wide array of matters involving student organizations, diversity and inclusion, academic progress and policies, wellness, and housing., • Maintaining an annual budget and providing a supportive environment for students from the moment of their acceptance to law school through their graduation and study for the bar examination., • Collaborating with Law School faculty as well as numerous departments, including Academic Success, Operations, Career Services, Alumni Affairs, Campus Safety and Equal Opportunity and Title IX., • Supervising the Director of Residence Life, whose responsibility is to oversee student housing and residential life to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for both academic and social development., • Supervising the Director of Student Life, whose responsibility is to create and oversee student programming, including clubs, activities, and student leadership opportunities, and budgets pertaining to those programs., • Supervising the Director of Accessibility, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX Coordinator, whose responsibility it is to oversee accommodations, equal opportunity education, training, assessment, and investigations, and Title IX compliance, education, training, assessment, and investigations., • In consultation with the Registrar’s Office and the Academic Success team, assisting students in academic planning and the provision of academic support and counseling throughout exam periods, after students receive grades, and as needed throughout the year., • Managing student conduct matters, providing guidance and expertise on student rights and responsibilities, the student disciplinary process, and alternative dispute resolution. Implementing the school’s attendance policy and facilitating decision-making regarding withdrawals and leaves of absence, as needed., • Providing strategic advice to senior leadership regarding student needs and perspectives., • Additional responsibilities, such as assisting with Orientation, Exam Period, Commencement, and all major school activities., • Providing advice, support, and communication as needed to students in the wake of personal tragedies and major events and emergencies., • Communicating with the student body on a regular basis and in response to unexpected situations., • At least ten years’ experience working in student affairs in a higher education setting, ideally as a Dean or Associate Dean of Students. Law school experience is strongly preferred., • Bachelor of Arts or Science and an advanced degree in law, education, counseling or related field. Law degree preferred., • Demonstrated ability to relate to and support students from diverse backgrounds, including racial, socio-economic, religious, and LGBTQ+ diversity., • Exceptional communication skills, particularly with student organizations and the student body as a whole., • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage and motivate a team of direct reports and to oversee budgets., • Experience in developing and providing programming for students in matters pertaining to academic, personal, and professional success and personal well-being., • The role requires regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, and other administrative departments. THE ROLE | HR&A is seeking a full-time Special Assistant & Research Analyst to support the Inclusive Cities practice leadership in our New York office. This is a hybrid role where you will dedicate approximately 70% of your time to high-level executive and operational support, coordinating across multiple projects within the Inclusive Cities practice, providing administrative support including calendaring, and taking on special projects for the practice. The remaining 30% of your time will involve research support for the practice, where you'll contribute to policy analysis, data synthesis, and report development that advances our equity-focused work. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Executive Support: * Proactive management and coordination of practice leadership calendars, including preparing and updating weekly schedules, forecasting scheduling conflicts and working quickly to resolve them, and responding to last-minute meeting requests with context-aware prioritization * Manage complex travel planning and detailed itineraries, including booking flights and hotel arrangements for client meetings, site visits, and community engagement events, and handling last-minute or urgent travel requests * Provide wide-ranging administrative support, including entering weekly timesheets, expense reporting and filing, and systems or technology support * Manage and assist with special projects and event coordination as assigned, including internal team meetings, client convenings, and community engagement sessions * Prepare leaders for meetings by organizing briefing materials, background research, and relevant context on attendees and topics Research & Analytical Support: * Conduct research on key policy areas relevant to the Inclusive Cities practice, including economic development policy, racial equity frameworks, community benefit agreements, workforce development, and criminal legal system reform * Collect, analyze, and synthesize data to support policy briefs, client reports, and internal knowledge-building * Assist in drafting research memos, literature reviews, and background sections of reports * Monitor news, academic research, legislative developments, and best practices relevant to equitable economic development and the practice's project portfolio * Maintain organized research databases and resource libraries for the practice team * Support cross-practice collaboration on research-related projects * Perform other duties as assigned EXPERIENCE REQUIRED * 2-4 years of work, with demonstrated research, writing, or analytical capabilities * Experience working with executives in a fast-paced, dynamic professional environment, ideally in professional services, public sector, or mission-driven organizations * Experience in policy research, community development, or social justice organizations is a plus * Ability to forecast and prioritize needs based on strategic understanding of the work, not just logistics * Must-have ability to follow through on tasks or projects, perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and advance them on behalf of Inclusive Cities leadership * Outstanding organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multitask across administrative and research responsibilities * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to write clearly and synthesize complex information * Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data and distill complex policy information into clear, concise formats * Interest in and commitment to racial equity, economic justice, and community-centered development * Bachelor's degree in public policy, business administration, political science, economics, urban planning, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience HYBRID WORK POLICY | HR&A fosters a collaborative and flexible work environment through our hybrid work policy.
