Position Summary: The Assistant Principal role at Success Academy is a high-impact leadership position for educators who want to develop adults, strengthen teaching and learning, and drive outstanding student outcomes across an entire school. The role is fundamentally about people management to achieve high-quality learning for every student. The Assistant Principal takes full ownership of schooling and instructional excellence across multiple grade levels and content areas, developing and holding teachers accountable to meet and exceed Success Academy's school quality standards.     CEDC CANNABIS STAFF ATTORNEY The Community & Economic Development Clinic (CEDC) at CUNY School of Law seeks applicants for the position of Staff Attorney. The CEDC Cannabis Staff Attorney will work to advance the CEDC’s mission of advocating for racial, economic, and social justice by providing legal advice, educational services, and other assistance to social & economic equity & CAURD cannabis licensees and applicants in a variety of areas, including incorporation, governance, application support, compliance (with corporate, employment, tax, cannabis and other laws), and real estate, zoning/land use, and lease issues. The Staff Attorney will also provide educational opportunities via workshops, trainings, and materials development. The Staff Attorney will also participate in relevant coalition work, including policy development, and support relevant grant-related responsibilities. The position offers a unique opportunity to provide pro bono legal services to the emerging cannabis industry in New York State. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide comprehensive legal advice to social & economic equity and CAURD cannabis licensees and applicants in New York State on transactional matters, including incorporation, governance, application support, compliance (with corporate, employment, tax, cannabis and other laws)., • Provide comprehensive legal advice to social & economic equity and CAURD cannabis licensees and applicants in New York State on property matters, including real estate transactions, zoning/land use, and lease issues., • Provide educational opportunities via workshops, trainings, and materials development to support current and prospective social & economic equity and CAURD cannabis licensees and applicants in New York State and related social & economic equity initiatives., • Participate in relevant coalition work and advocacy, including policy development, alliance building, and collaboration with CEDC’s partners., • Engage in effective client intake and screening in compliance with laws and regulations in preparation for legal counseling., • Conduct legal research, counseling, and drafting to advance transactional matters from inception through closing, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and legal ethics., • Collaborate with staff on administrative compliance through quality control, program evaluation, outcomes measurement, strategic planning, and technical assistance grants., • Support tracking, use of data, special projects and other duties and responsibilities relevant to grant compliance and fundraising. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: • Applicant should be admitted to the New York State Bar, or pending admission within 3 months of start date, or able to be admitted on motion, • Applicant should have at least 2 years’ relevant post-law school experience, • Strong research, writing and analytical skills, • Excellent organizational skills, • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, • Strongly preferred familiarity with the New York State cannabis law and regulations, • Strongly preferred experience in community organizing and working with grassroots groups fostering social justice in the city and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and engagement in racial, economic, and social justice initiatives, • Strongly preferred experience engaging with clients and communities through accessible information and popular education, and developing creative movement lawyering strategies to support grassroots and community-based organizing, • Strongly preferred personal experience in navigating systems affecting communities disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition, working and immigrant communities of color, and/or historically marginalized communities. BACKGROUND: The Community & Economic Development Clinic (CEDC) advances racial and economic justice by supporting the development of worker-owned enterprises, cooperative ecosystems, and other forms of community-controlled development. Grounded in movement lawyering, the clinic works alongside grassroots partners in historically disinvested and plundered communities to build democratic economic institutions that redistribute wealth and power. CEDC integrates transactional legal services, policy advocacy, and institutional design to support worker cooperatives, community land trusts, and broader solidarity economy initiatives. Its work also includes advancing tenant organizing, health justice, including the transition to just marijuana policies and justice initiatives that address structural inequality and the social determinants of health, and other strategies that address structural inequality and the social determinants of health.     Program Overview: The Support and Connection Center provides 24/7 short stay, engagement, stabilization, and treatment services for adults with mental health and/or substance use issues referred directly by NYPD as an alternative to the traditional police responses of arrest, summons, or transport to an emergency room. Guests are referred to the Center when their infractions are non-violent and/or low-level offenses such as loitering, trespass, public inebriation, and disorderly conduct. The goal of the Center is to help guests begin to identify and modify the behaviors that result in repeated police contact. An OASAS licensed outpatient clinic, located on site, provides services to guests who are eligible. The maximum length of stay is 5 days. Overall Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Assistant Program Director, the Clinical Team Lead conducts rapid assessments, engages guests in wellness, discharge, and aftercare planning, and facilitates linkages to community-based services and residential settings. The team lead also oversees a team of CASAC's and Peers and is responsible for the delegation of tasks to the team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties of the Clinical Team Lead include but are not limited to the following activities: · Provides direct care to guests through conducting rapid assessments to identify the full range of service needs and safety planning · As the primary counselor for a designated caseload - collaborates with the full on-site team to ensure coordination of care, individual counseling, treatment planning through targeted case management, and discharge planning · Promotes dignity-based care to reduce the negative effects of drug use for individuals at various stages of recovery · Models best practice, person centered, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented engagement skills for team · Counsel’s guests through individualized and group therapy sessions on issues such as wellness self-management, and community integration skills · Excellent verbal communication skills including an ability to have open and affirming conversations about health, sex and substance use risk. · Identifies and makes referrals for community-based treatment and support services. · Participates and facilitates daily team meetings · Inputs guest information and updates into the facility’s case management software system, ensuring all data is accurate and entered in a timely fashion · Promotes the professional development of supervisees through supervision, professional coaching, and training · Anticipates the needs of the clinical team they lead and executes Qualifications: LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LP or master’s level counselor with CASAC (All MSW, MHC, PC candidates must obtain NYS license within 6 months from date of hire) · A minimum of four (4) years of experience working with homeless and criminal justice involved individuals with either a diagnosis of mental illness or a substance use disorder, including experience in emergency or crisis services · Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds · The ability to work well in a highly pressured environment set and meets deadlines and delegate as appropriate · Strong communication and problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders to understand and incorporate diverse points of view, styles, and approaches · An ability to lead, collaborate, and interface with guests as well as all levels of staff · Proficiency in case management software, electronic health records, and Microsoft Office Suite · A minimum of excellent oral, writing, and listening skills All newly hired Project Renewal staff must provide verification of being full
