As a significant part of the treatment team, the Educational/Vocational Specialist will assist in reenrolling youth and families in an appropriate school/vocational program, provide school advocacy, and offer support for developing academic, vocational, and job-related skills to promote self-sufficiency. The Assistant Site Director is responsible for supporting the Program Director with the supervision and daily operations of their assigned after-school program and plays a critical role in Manhattan Youth’s ability to deliver high-quality after-school enrichment programs. Salary Range: $40,000 - $40,000 Position Summary: Founded in 1866, Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) empowers children and families to reach their full potential, strengthen families, and foster self-sufficiency in adults. With programs in 25 locations, BCS serves more than 12,000 individuals a year. Cornerstone Programs provide academic and recreational opportunities to children, teens and adults in NYCHA community centers. The Cornerstone program is offered every weekday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00pm, and extended hours during the summer and school holidays. BCS Cornerstone Programs are located in Brownsville, Fort Greene, and Coney Island. Position Summary: In conjunction with the Site Director, supervises staff and participants in the community center. Oversees the day-to-day activities of the center. Assists Site Director in creating high quality experiences that are aligned with the BCS philosophy: planning, organizing, developing, scheduling, enforcing rules, and evaluating recreation/educational activities in the center. Responsibilities: • Supervises Group Leaders, Activity Specialists and custodial staff. Provide them with regular supervision through observations and feedback, • Develops staff schedules, enforcing rules, and evaluating recreation/educational activities in the center., • Assists with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating center staff., • Schedules the community center facilities and supervises conditions of the facilities such as set-ups and breakdowns of facility equipment and resources., • Manages crisis as needed including, handling mental health issues ., • Facilitate mediations and conflict resolutions sessions between participants and parents as needed., • Assist in carrying out other aspects of the program including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership activities., • Develop one on one relationships with the participants, parents, and community partners, • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Child Development or Elementary Education encouraged to apply. POSITION SUMMARY The After School Center Assistant will work closely with the After School Center Director to assist in overseeing programming, ensuring ongoing support for students, parents, and overall high quality programming. SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Hospitality/Front desk management Assistant will help manage the foyer, focusing on parent communication, monitoring child sign-in and sign-out, answering telephones, handling discipline situations, etc., • Tuition Payments Assistant will help collect & keep track of tuition payments. They may also be asked to supervise recreation time outside when the weather allows., • Points systems & class parties Working alongside After School Center Director, assistant will track the points that are awarded to childrens teams, and plan monthly parties for the teams that reach the benchmark., • Safety protocols Assistant will help stock 1st aid kits, manage fire drills, lockdown drills etc., • Special projects Assistant will be asked to assist with a variety of projects throughout the year (e.g.: creating signs and flyers to give parents up to date information on closings and upcoming events; helping coordinate After School Center performances and open houses; etc.)., • Community Time leadership Assistant may be asked to plan and lead a 15 minute activity on a certain day of the week. Through a comprehensive continuum of care and programming that includes social work services, medical, nursing and psychiatric care, specialized peer support, housing placement, benefits assistance, arts and recreation and food and nutrition programs, our talented, multi-disciplinary team which includes social workers, mental health clinicians, nurses, psychiatric providers, peer advocates and program assistants, helps clients to transition from homelessness to permanent housing. Hourly Rate: $28.60/Hour Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Program Assistant is an integral member of our Women’s Mental Health Shelter, joining our multidisciplinary team, to support the day-to-day operations of the program and support our clients. The Program Assistant will have primary responsibility for assisting with all administrative, customer service and operational functions of the Women’s Mental Health Shelter.
